2026. And we begin with a formerly homeless

Southern California teen defying the odds to head to the ivies. 17-year-old Lamont Newell was

accepted to a staggering 65 schools, but ultimately selected a full ride from Columbia, where

her major in industrial engineering.

That's a long way from Los Angeles and the car he slept in growing up.

Despite the hardship, he put in the work, graduated with a 4.4 GPA, and was named valedictorian of his class.

You may feel like during your situation there is no path out, but there is always an

exit to your destination, he told ABC 7. Lamont is the first male in his entire family to graduate
