And we begin with technology doing its part to slow global warming.

This week, Iceland flipped the switch on what is essentially the world's largest carbon vacuum.

It's called mammoth and draws harmful emissions out of the atmosphere and into collection containers.

The carbon is then transformed into stone, deep underground, out of harm's way.

An executive from Clim Works, the company behind the technology, told CNN they hope to expand into Kenya and the

U.S. with the goal of removing 1 billion tons of carbon per year by 2050.

Critics of the technology cite high operation costs, Mammoth's own energy

consumption needs, and concerns that technological fixes could reduce the motivation in people to change their habits.

As a young girl, Lisa Shoe spent a lot of time pouring over maps and globes,

and while she caught the travel bug early,

she didn't get her first passport until she was 23.

Now 43, and a teacher in San Jose, California,

Lucy is part of an exclusive club.

She's visited seven continents and all 193 UN recognized countries.

Her first international destination was London and the last was Syria.

Since international travel can be expensive,

Lucy does her research to cut costs and volunteers

while staying with local families.

Even though she's reached her goal, Lucy is not

done exploring. Still on her list, traveling on a cargo ship.

Scientists are investigating a link between weather and earthquakes.
