Good morning, and welcome to Kid News! I'm Tori. Today is Tuesday, May 10, 2022, and we

begin with a big part of the U.S. dealing with the first heat wave of the year. The hot

weather started in Texas over the weekend, where temperatures soared as high as 112 degrees

at Rio Grande Village near the Mexico border on Saturday. But the weather pattern is now

traveling north, where more records are expected to be crushed in Nebraska, Iowa, and the

Great Lakes in the next couple days. The National Weather Service is reminding those living

in these areas to practice heat safety if they have outdoor plans, and stay hydrated.

This heat wave is not good news for firefighters battling large wildfires in New Mexico. The

biggest blaze northeast of Santa Fe is more than twice the size of Philadelphia, and thousands

of residents have had to evacuate. Full containment is not expected until the end of July.

There was a busy mother's day for one New York mom, who just last week gave birth to twins

for the third time. Doctors say the likelihood of naturally having non-identical twins three

times in a row is almost unheard of. Kimberly Allercon and her husband, John, actually

of 10 children, the oldest is 17. Kimberly is thrilled with her youngest daughters. She says

it's the perfect mother's day gift, though she admits their house can be a little chaotic

at times. Life isn't perfect, she tells the Washington Post, but we've learned to take

a deep breath and have fun. A class for dads that started as a

LARC has turned into a really popular learning opportunity. Anis Waw is the owner of braid

maidens in England, where she offers instruction on how to braid hair. As part of a fundraiser

for a local school, she agreed to offer a class just for dads, though she was afraid

no one would sign up. But to her surprise, it quickly sold out and had a long waitlist.
