Summary

We're talking about the history, downfall, and complete restoration of the actual, screen-used, A-carĀ DeLorean Time Machine fromĀ Back to the Future! I'm joined by Joe Walser, head of the restoration, andĀ Steve Concotelli, director of the Outatime documentary about the restoration.

After filming of the Back to the Future trilogy was completed, theĀ DeLorean Time Machine became neglected, had countless parts stolen from it, and was even left sitting outside with the keys in the ignition! But there was still life left in thisĀ legendary car. Listen in as we discuss the complete restoration of the original DeLorean Time Machine!

Hello and welcome to the 48th episode of Curiosityness. I am Travis DeRose, the host,

0:07.7

and on this episode I have the guys who rebuilt the original screen-used Delorean from

0:15.6

Back to the Future. And holy crap, it was pretty fun to talk to them. I have on Steve Concatelli, who is the director and producer of a documentary called Out of Time, which documents the whole process.

0:29.1

So he talks about that.

0:30.6

And we also brought on Joe Walzer, and he's the head designer, builder of the whole restoration, and was basically the driving force to get it done

0:40.6

on the original A car that was used in the Back to the Future movie. And it's just the amount of

0:47.9

detail and time and money that was spent on this thing is incredible. And it's really fun to hear

0:55.4

Joe dive in and talk about all the, you know, the little details that you or I would never notice.

1:02.9

But it's really cool to know that stuff is there. It may be worth it to go listen to or go check

1:08.4

out of time documentary before you listen to this or at least look up a

1:11.9

picture of the of the restored delorian. It might give you a better appreciation. It's at out of time

1:18.8

movie.com. There's a link to it down below. You could check out the documentary. But that's it.

1:24.1

This is the podcast with Steve Concatelli and Joe Walzer.

1:30.8

And boom, we're on. What's up, Steve and Joe? How are you guys doing?

1:35.4

Good. Good. Good. Man, well, this is pretty cool. You guys worked on the restoration of the actual original time machine Deloria.

1:49.0

Yeah, we did.

1:52.0

Steve, tell them what you did.

1:54.0

I had nothing to do with the actual restoration.

1:57.0

I filmed it.

1:58.0

Joe, Joe and his team, they did the restoration. So I won't take any credit for that. Right. But the documentary, like documenting it, I think really helps people appreciate it. Because, you know, I've seen it at Universal Studios. And then now is it at the Peterson Museum? Yes. Okay, yeah, I've seen at both places.

2:18.6

And it's like insane when you go see it.

2:20.5

But when you watch this documentary out of time, you can like really, really appreciate all the detail and effort that has gone into it.
