... You're hearing Y Control by Yay Yay's Featuring my guest Brian Chase on drums.

Yeya Ys formed in Brooklyn, New York in 2000,

and were an integral part of a wave of bands that emerged from that city's underground rock scene

and achieved international mainstream success.

Brian grew up studying jazz, and although he's best known for playing in a rock band,

his style embodies the jazz spirit

with a powerful balance of discipline, adventurousness, and tonal nuance. Brian's solo project,

drums and drones, explores musical tonality with a microscopic, meditative approach.

A thoughtful and communicative collaborator, Brian stays busy working with artists including

contemporary harpist Zena Parkins, improv legend John Zorn, and the psych punk band Beach Creeps.

I got to know Brian in New York when we performed together as part of Kid Millian's Man

Forever Ensemble.
