In 1955, they opened up Disneyland in July, and they had no money to basically even finish it.

And they were out of money completely.

So the area around Disneyland was open at that time.

And as Disneyland became more and more

popular, motels kept springing up in restaurants, inexpensive, cheap motels.

And the Disney folks, particularly Roy and Walt Disney, thought it was kind of seedy outside

the park.

So opening up in Orange County, Florida, they decided they were

going to have all of the land that was anywhere near the Disney Park. And so they bought up

40,000 acres, and they owned all of it. And then they created something called the Reedy Creek Improvement

District and created their own city. They provide the fire, built the roads, the security,

the sewer system, I mean, all of it. And they produced their own building codes.
