And we begin with formal farewells for the man known as the People's Pope.

According to the Vatican, 88-year-old Pope Francis died of a stroke and heart failure just weeks after being released from the hospital

and only hours after taking

his open-air Pope Mobile for an Easter morning spin through St. Peter's Square. This morning,

his body lies in a simple wooden box, a fitting choice for the man who ditched his predecessor's

flashy red loafers and fancy garments for used shoes and simple attire. He also carried his own bag and refused to

live in the ornate papal apartment, choosing instead a modest guest house. Tomorrow, that simplicity

and humility will be on display at St. Peter's Basilica, where thousands of Catholic faithful

are expected to pay their respects. Church doctrine calls for Pope Francis

to be buried within six days, after which the business of picking a new Pope begins. That should

happen in about three weeks. Today is Earth Day, a day dedicated to our precious planet and the

importance of protecting it.

This year's theme is Our Power, Our Planet. More than a billion people will do what they can today to pick up litter, plant trees, and promote clean sources of energy, like wind and solar. According to National Geographic, the first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 when a United States

Senator from Wisconsin organized a national demonstration to raise awareness about environmental
