Good morning, and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kim, today is Wednesday, April 21st, 2021,

and we begin with Justice for George Floyd. As you might remember from May of last year,

Mr. Floyd lost his life due to the actions of one police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

His passing led to protests all across the country and calls for change in how law enforcement

deals with communities of color. Late yesterday, the jury had its say. After 10 hours of deliberations,

it found the defendant, former officer Derek Chauvin, guilty on all counts. He now faces 40 years

in prison. Reaction has not been mixed. The nation's biggest police union admitted the trial was

fair. President Biden called it a day of justice in America, and George's family said it can breathe

again. It's a superhero first. This week, Marvel Studios dropped a trailer for Sean Chi in the

Legend of Ten Rings, a movie that will light up the big screen in September with its first ever

Asian Crusader, backed by an almost entirely Asian cast and crew. The film star is Seemoo Liu,

and he's well aware of the importance of this movie to the Asian and Asian American communities.

I never saw myself as the hero of my own story growing up, he posted,

but this is our movie and it will be impossible for Hollywood to ignore us after this.

Sean Chi might be a superhero in the cinema, but Alex Smith is a legend in real life.

The NFL quarterback announced his retirement Monday, just two months after being named the

league's comeback player of the year for 2020. As you may remember, Alex badly broke his leg in a

game in 2018. Underwent 17 surgeries, got a dangerous infection, was wheelchair bound and had to

wear a brace to combat drop foot. He didn't give up. Alex pushed himself for a year and a half

through grueling rehab to get back under center, and he did. Now though, after 16 seasons, he's

hanging it up. Even though he says he has more snaps left in him, he wants to enjoy walks with

his wife. And he foreshadowed, my kids have no idea what's coming for them in the backyard.
