four months after Russian intelligence operatives attempted to kill a former spy in Salisbury.

The security minister Dan Jarvis told the commons,

Dawn Sturgis had been the victim of a chemical weapons attack on British soil,

and he announced that the UK was imposing new sanctions on Russia's military

intelligence agency, the GRU. These sanctions recognise the continued, reckless and destabilising

activity of the GRU, which seeks to undermine Ukraine, European security and the safety of the

United Kingdom.

They will include sanctions against eight GRU officers under the cyber sanctions regime and

three GRU officers under the Russia sanctions regime, who have been implicated in hostile
