Good morning and welcome the Kid News. I'm Kim.

Today is Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

And we begin with a swing and a fiery miss for some baseball loving parents in

Ridgefield, Connecticut. In an effort to get their boys soggy high school field

ready for a weekend baseball game, they turned to an idea that no doubt sounded better on paper.

They took some gasoline, sprinkled it around third base, and set a fire.

That dried up the patch so well they ran out to get more gas, dumped 25 more gallons in the

infield dirt, and lit a match. Suffice it to say, the field went up in flames. Not only did the fire department have to put out the blaze,

hazardous materials team spent the weekend cleaning up a toxic mess. Repairs are said to be north of $50,000.

It was a national championship for the ages.

Despite predictions of a defensive snoozer,

the final matchup of March Madness was a hoops lover's dream.

For only the eighth time in championship history the game went to overtime and

when all was said and done it was Virginia, a team that got knocked out in the first round last year that pulled off a win over Texas Tech 85 to 77.
