Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kevin.

Today is Friday, April 8, 2022, and we begin with history taking a seat on the high court.

Yesterday, the U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination of Katangi Brown Jackson,

making her the country's first ever Black woman justice.

The final vote was 53-47, with three Republicans citing with all 50 Democrats to elevate her to the peak of the judicial branch.

She'll soon join eight other Supreme Court justices in hearing and deciding the most important legal cases in the country.

Usually, a swearing-in ceremony follows confirmation pretty quickly,

but Judge Jackson's oath has to wait. The justice she's replacing isn't retiring until this summer.

According to reporters, the situation in Ukraine is going from bad to worse.

But if there's a reason for hope, it can be found in the ongoing worldwide generosity towards refugees.

The latest to open their doors, a couple from Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada,

who own a full-scale nature resort. Their LuxLodge sits on a lake surrounded by a forest

and will welcome up to 100 Ukrainians with free education, food, and overall help getting everyone back on their feet,
