Today is Thursday, April 7, 2022, and we begin with opening day for Major League Baseball

and with it, a new high-tech gadget designed to stop sign stealing in its tracks.

Traditionally, catchers and pitchers use hand signals to decide what pitch to throw.

This season, catchers can instead punch a button on a computerized wristband, which will

relay their pitch preference to a listing device in the pitcher's cap.

It's called pitchcom, but not all teams plan to use it, at least not right away.

Baseball officials are hoping the technology will catch on and eliminate sign stealing

controversies that have shadowed the game for years, including the Houston Astros 2017

World Series win.

The MLB is also dealing with some ill will following its 99 day player lockout.
