I'm a retired agent writing crime fiction inspired by actual FBI cases. In this episode, we speak with retired agent Del Spry.

Del served in the FBI for 20 years. agent Del's Bri. Del's

for 20 years.

During his career he primarily worked,

counterintelligence,

counter-espionage,

and counter-terrorism investigations.

While assigned to FBI headquarters, Dell was a member of the National Security Council

Counter-Terrorism Working Group.

He was liaison to the CIA Counter Intelligence Center, Counter Espionage Group,

and was the lead investigator for the FBI in the Aldridge Ames case.

Del is interviewed about that two-year-long investigation where he, as the FBI case agent,

along with a team of FBI and CIA personnel

was successful in identifying Aldridge, also known as Rick Ames,

as a KGB mole.

Ames, who was directly responsible for the execution of several Soviet and Russian

assets, was charged and convicted of espionage in 1994 and is currently serving a life sentence.

Dale received the FBI Directors Award for Excellence Investigation

and the CIA Director's Meritorious Service Award for his efforts.

Prior to his retirement,

Dell supervised a counterintelligence squad in Atlanta, Georgia.
