I think if anything sets her apart, it's that, it's her honesty.

It's her not just willingness, but her expertise at converting real life into art, into her comedy.

Her television show, One Mississippi, was semi-autobiographical,

and I know that it used a lot of what she dealt with growing up in Mississippi

and turned it into this really not just funny, but poignant, honest, human thing.

And that's the same with her art, you know, with her comedy.

Her most recent special, Happy to Be Here, is fantastic.

If you're going to start anywhere,

maybe her special from a few years ago,

boyish girl interrupted,

is so great.

She takes her experience living through breast cancer

and her double mastectomy

and turns it into this really life-affirming,

hilarious comedy special. And that's a special talent, you know, it's, you know, it's the

converting non-gold into gold, you know, especially when the non-gold is so painful.

She and I met years ago, God, over a decade ago, we were playing the Sasquatch Comedy Festival.

Sorry.
