Today on the savvy painter podcast, I have Kathleen Dumfy. Kathleen is a plain air painter. Abby Painter Poppye.

Kathleen is a plane air painter from Northern California.

In 1998, she was recognized by the American Artist magazine

as one of the top 10 emerging artists.

And their prediction was right.

Kathleen has had considerable honors in almost a dozen solo shows since then.

Kathleen, thank you so much for being here. So tell me a little bit about yourself and your work.

Well, first of all, thank you for inviting me. I'm excited to be here talking to you today.

I am a planner painter as well as a studio painter. I've been doing this now. Oh gosh I think I first quit my other job and decided to do this full time in about 1996. So long enough to have an opinion about it. And I do this full time and really feel fortunate

that I can call this my full time job. I know that there are a lot of people who would love

to be able to do this as their primary way of spending their days.

And so I never take for granted that I can get up every day

and go in the studio or grab my pack and head outside to paint

and that's considered work.

Yeah, it's an amazing life we have, right?

Yeah, it is, it really is.

At that point where you quit your job in 1996,

what was that like for you?
