Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kim. Today is Wednesday, March 26th, 2025.

And we begin with West Virginia taking the lead in kicking artificial food coloring to the curb.

On Monday, the state banned seven dyes and two artificial preservatives from

school meals as well as from food and drugs sold statewide. It's the most sweeping law in the

nation, even outpacing recent action in California. On the list, blue numbers one and two, green

number three, yellows five and six, and reds 40 and three.

The dyes are used to add vivid colors to all sorts of products, including cereal, snacks, and candy,

but have also been linked to a variety of health issues.

Except for red dye number three, the FDA has said the others are safe in small amounts.

At least 20 other states aren't convinced and are expected

to follow West Virginia. Europe banned the dyes years ago. We've all done it, but in all
