Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori.

Today is Tuesday, March 19, 2019.

And we begin with a new mayor being sworn in in Fairhaven, Vermont. But first she had to be

coaxed away from her field and into the back of a pickup truck. That's because the mayor

is a three-year-old goat named Lincoln.

The town manager came up with the idea of having kids suggest an animal of their choice to be mayor

for a modest five dollar fee. The money raised would pay for a new school playground. 12 animals were

nominated, but Lincoln came out on top. To sign the official paperwork, she reluctantly

stepped on an ink pad and then stomped her right front hoof on a document as her signature.

The idea was such a success that this mayoral election is going to be held every year as a fundraiser

and a civics lesson for kids.
