Good morning and welcome to kid news. I'm Tori. Today is Friday, March 15th, 2019. And we begin with students all

over the world skipping school today. Not to protest too much homework or long school

hours, they're making a plea to government

and business leaders to take immediate action against climate change.

The whole movement began with a single teenager, 16-year-old Greta Thunberg of Sweden.

She first became aware of the issue at age 8

while watching a film in school about the harm caused by plastic in the ocean.

Now she attends school four days a week and every Friday she

sits outside the Parliament Building with a sign reading

School Strike for Climate. Today's event is said to involve a thousand

protests in over a hundred countries.
