Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is today in Parliament from BBC Radio 4 for Tuesday,

the 3rd of June, when there were questions about the future of the UK's biggest water company

following the collapse of a rescue deal. When will the government stop fiddling, put Thamesworths into special administration,

strip out the debt and begin the job of returning our water system,

not just TEMS, back into public ownership?

The Home Secretary reveals that a task force is to re-examine child grooming allegations.

Thames Water is the UK's biggest water company, with 16 million customers.

It also has billions of pounds of debt.

Last week, the water regulator Offwat announced that it was fining the company more than £120 million for breaking rules on sewage spills and shareholder payouts.

And now there's a question mark over its future, after a US private equity firm, KKR, pulled out of a £4 billion rescue deal.

The Environment Secretary Steve Reid told the Commons the government was

monitoring the situation, but stressed that Thames Water remained stable and there would be no

disruption to customers' water supply. There remains a market-led solution on the table. We expect

the company and its directors to continue the process underway and fix the financial resilience of the company in the interest of their customers.
