in response to Donald Trump's import tariffs,

but a minister rejects a knee-jerk response.

I was bombarded with death threats, rape jokes and abuse from accounts both local and international.

But first, the government has announced it's looking to see what American goods could be targeted in retaliation for the imposition of tariffs by Donald Trump.

Late last night, the US president announced a baseline 10% import tax on goods from countries,

including the UK. He imposed a much higher rate on some other nations, such as South Africa,

Vietnam and China, and put a 20% tariff on goods from the EU.

He also imposed a 25% tax on all imported cars.

Donald Trump believes the tariffs will boost the economy and protect jobs,

but experts have warned it could spark a global trade war and push up prices for American consumers.

The business secretary Jonathan Reynolds told the Commons the government was disappointed by the move,

but talks to try to secure a trade deal with the US to mitigate its impact were continuing.
