Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Monday, February 23, 2026. And we begin with the biggest

blizzard in a decade blasting much of the northeast. A storm that forecasters initially thought

might just skim the region was instead expected to make a direct hit on New York City and the tri-state area

overnight. Up to two feet of snow could fall by the time it tapers off later today, with winds at

times whipping to 70 miles an hour. Many of you who live in the region are probably getting a

classic breakout the sled snow day, or at least a remote day as forecasters warn

traveled by road will be dangerous, if not impossible, from Washington, D.C., all the way up to

Boston. In the air, more problems. More than 4,700 flights are canceled today, and hundreds more

have been grounded tomorrow.

Also impacted by the blizzard, the now gold medal winning U.S. men's hockey team.

The boys in red, white, and blue were supposed to fly from Milan to New Jersey today,

but their flights are instead headed for a snowless layover in Miami. They probably won't mind the delay.

Early yesterday on the 46th anniversary of 1980s Miracle on Ice

came the miracle in Milan with the Americans grabbing gold from the gloves of Canada

less than two minutes into overtime.

That victory gave the U.S. a total of 12 gold medals. The most the team is won

at any winter games. Up next is the Paralympics for athletes with physical and mental challenges.

It begins in two weeks. And preps are already underway for the 2030 winter games. Last night at the

closing ceremony, Organizers in Italy

passed the Olympic flag to France, which will host across several locations in the Alps.
