Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Tori. Today is Friday, February 20th, 2026. And we begin with the epic

comeback of Alyssa Lou complete.

The Californian who walked away from figure skating at 16 after losing her love of the sport is now the first American woman to win Olympic gold in 24 years.

Quitting, she says, was the best thing she's ever done.

Alyssa spent two years off the ice before deciding to come back on her own terms,

which meant skating solely for the joy and artistry of it. It certainly showed last night,

and almost as a byproduct, she clobbered the competition. As far as the rest of the Blade Angels,

Amber Glenn pulled herself from 13th to 5th, and Isabel Levito took 12th. It was also a good day

for American women in a different rink where the U.S. hockey team won gold in a thrilling

overtime win over Canada. There have been many memorable moments at these games, but one that

has a lot of people talking is the sudden appearance

of Nasgul, the wolf dog that dashed into the heart of a woman's cross-country skiing race

on Wednesday. One Croatian skier told NPR she was pretty shocked to see the animal on the track

and wondered, am I hallucinating? But Nasgol didn't just show up. He showed out, zooming across the finish line

with two competitors. The accidental athlete sprint was even caught by the photo finish camera.
