Good morning and welcome to kid news, I'm Tori.

Today is Thursday, February 17, 2022.

And we begin with a long and stormy voyage for one tiny boat.

In October 2020, a class of New Hampshire middle schoolers launched a six-foot-long boat

they'd built out to sea, not knowing if they'd ever see it again.

After 462 days, it was found by a six-grader, 8,300 miles away.

Chris and the Rye Riptides, after their hometown, the crafty kids had decorated the vessel and

filled it with photos, state quarters, and an all-important GPS tracker.

As part of an environmental program called Educational Passage, the kids followed the boats

progress which included long periods of silence.

When the tracker stopped sending notifications, they assumed all was lost.

Then last month the pinging resumed off the coast of Norway, and through the magic of

social media, the hunt was on.
