Running purists say the shoes provide an unfair advantage, but the governing body for the sport

available for wide release in the coming weeks. If you haven't seen them, brace

yourself. The shoes look a bit sci-fiish with a carbon plate for propulsion and super-thick soles for cushioning.

According to the journal Sports Medicine, the boost in performance is measurable.
