And we begin with a Kentucky 10-year-old boy schooling quarterback Tom Brady with his science fair project,

Ace Davis's hypothesis that under-inflated footballs provide a competitive advantage.

To test his theory, Ace's family threw footballs with varied amounts of inflation in their backyard.

After measuring the distance of each throw and calculating the average,

Ace found that the least inflated ball traveled the farthest distance.

As you may remember, Brady was suspended for four

games in 2016 when the league determined he and the Patriots undermined NFL rules by adjusting

how much air was in team balls.

Ace displayed his theory, method, and supporting research on a tri-fold board

and won top prize in the fourth grade.

His project now goes on to the district fair.

What's known as a polar vortex is about to sweep down into the United States, bringing

cold temperatures the likes of which haven't been seen in decades if ever.

Should the forecast hold by Wednesday thermometers throughout the upper Midwest will

read well below zero and wind chills in Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota could plummet to minus 60 degrees.

The deep freeze will be widespread.

In fact, 68 million people, nearly a quarter of the U.S. population, will have a temperature fall below zero next week.

The federal government is up and running today for the first time in five weeks.

On Friday night, President Trump signed a bill officially

ending the longest shutdown in US history, but the relief for federal workers

may be temporary. The spending agreement reach between Republicans and Democrats only lasts until February 15th.
