Summary

We all love bird books and 2017 was a good year for them with a number of exciting titles seeing publication this year. As we reach the end of the year it's a good time to look back at the ones we loved, and 10,000 Birds book reviewer Donna Schulman joins host Nate Swick to talk about our favorites. Donna and Nate each share our Top 5, including field guides, family specific guides, and narratives from well-known authors and publishers. Find those lists here!

Also, the new ABA Checklist is out and it includes Hawaiian birds. Nate talks about why that's exciting and one, completely arbitrary reason why it's not.

1:24.2	ABA checklist, version 8 now, is out and it is a big deal for a couple important
1:29.3	reasons. The first being that this is the list that includes Hawaiian birds. So about one year
1:35.0	after the official vote to include Hawaii in the ABA area, we have a checklist that reflects
1:39.9	that change. Thanks to Peter Pyle and the rest of the volunteer ABA checklist committee,
1:45.1	it should go without saying that this was a huge job going through the status of Hawaiian birds,
1:49.6	especially those established exotics in Hawaii, and determining which are in and which are,
1:55.2	as yet out. I'll have a link to the new checklist in the show notes. It's, I got to say,
2:00.4	it's pretty wild scrolling through it and seeing the names of those
2:03.4	honey creepers and other Hawaiian native birds.
