Summary

As a business coach, I find myself asking this question often:

Are courses dead?

The truth is, courses aren't gone, but the way people approach them has changed. In today's episode, I'm diving into why there's still a real need for courses in the business world, and how consumers who seek guidance now require more intentional leadership and direction.

Business owners who enroll in courses today aren't just looking for information, they're craving proximity, mentorship, and practical tools that help them reach the next level. With so much free knowledge available online, the real value now comes from connection, clarity, and guided implementation.

0:17.5

I'm going to be discussing courses and the course industry and whether or not courses are dead

0:23.9

on the podcast episode today. And so perhaps you've seen conversations going on online about

0:32.5

whether or not courses are dead. I'm using that in parentheses. There have been, you know, posts that I've been reading

0:38.8

through on social media, Facebook in particular. Maybe you've seen some of those posts also.

0:43.5

It's been conversation that I've heard on different podcasts, et cetera, et cetera, okay?

0:49.2

Conversations that are happening inside of business groups with my business friends, et cetera. And so there are some real

0:56.4

problems within the course industry that I see right now. Okay. And I think it's one thing for me just to say,

1:04.1

okay, I'm noticing some issues. I see some problems. There's some, you know, things that are being,

1:13.9

there's a lot to be desired within the course industry at the moment.

1:15.3

So it's one thing for me to say, I think the course industry is struggling.

1:17.8

It's another thing to like have some data to back it up.

1:20.6

So in the business Harvard or Harvard Business Review, my team found the stat that said that less than 3% of all

1:32.5

courses ever get finished. Okay. And the thing with data is like, data don't lie, right?

1:37.1

So I can say, oh, I think there's this, you know, there's something going on with courses right now.

1:42.1

But then it's different than when you see an actual statistics. So in all of the

1:46.4

online courses that are being purchased, Harvard Business Review says less than 3% of those are being

1:51.6

completed. Okay. If you flip over to teachable or thinkific, they have some internal data on that,

1:58.2

and they're saying that the average completion rate on courses is 8 to 12%. So whichever way you want to look at that, basically like less than

2:06.3

nine out of every 10 people or more than nine or two people are not finishing the courses

2:13.7

that they're purchasing. And so, you know, this is problematic because if you're somebody
