Let's cultivate what matters together. Out here in the garden, there's not a whole lot growing it seems. There are pansies left over from the fall. They don't look so happy right now. There are winter weeds. Yes, this is a thing.

There are garden tools out here from where my kids love to dig in these giant patches of winter

dirt.

But really above the surface, it does not look like a whole lot is happening. But if you were to take

a journey below the surface, you would see something of the miraculous. This soil is transforming. The roots from

last season.

All the remnants of the past, little tiny bits of glittering reminders of last year's garden fun.

Old leaves, old sticks, rocks, all kinds of goodies are in this soil

decomposing. And okay, the word decomposing you may think, oh, that sounds gross.

But here in the garden it's one of the most magical things that can happen as all these old parts of the past transform in this soil.

It makes for what's called a rich hummus in the soil.
