Big 10 football media days gets underway today.

0:09.8

So a lot of hanging around the television, watching the coaches at the podium and then

0:14.0

seeing some of the top comments from the breakout sessions.

0:18.1

The thing about today is that maybe the big,

0:21.2

I think the Big Ten did a pretty good job of trying to spread out because there's a lot of coaches that nobody really, you know, nationally, there's no buzz. So first of all, you get a lot of attention because your commissioner speaks first and everyone wants to hear Tony Petiti is going to talk about the playoff. Well, he will be asked about the playoff format. He is going to be asked about his desire for the 4-4-22 yada-a-y-da format. And I think that's going to be the bulk of what he's going to have to be discussing today. But it's the, the Big Ten is a very, a fairly quiet, close to the vest, keeping things a fairly hush kind of conference. And SEC obviously is not and so you've heard a lot

0:56.6

from them in the last many weeks and et cetera and we know that where they where they stand in the

1:01.4

well we know where everybody stands in the playoff at this point we have not heard from

1:04.8

Tony Petitie about this and we've not heard a lot of from the coaches about this but one of the

1:09.1

coaches the first one actually leading off today bret beelama is another one that is in support of his plan. Now, I don't know if it's because he was given some sort of, you know, incentive. Actually, I get it why, because if you finish in, say, six in the Big Ten, you still have a shot to make the playoff in that playing game. And as an Illinois coach, if you finish in, say, fifth or six, where you might be on a fair amount of times, you'd at least get yourself into that playoff Saturday to be in a position to potentially get into the college football playoff. So I understand why Brett, he's probably in favor. I'm curious how most of the coaches where they stand on the issue,

1:45.3

because we haven't heard for most of them.

1:47.7

I'm not sure most coaches necessarily care as long as they have more opportunities to get in

1:53.4

because all coaches have incentives in their contracts if they make the CFP.

1:58.3

So the more CFP spots that are available, the more opportunities they have to,

2:03.3

um, they have to make those incentives, obviously if you can fill one of those spots.

2:08.2

It's the same reason why the power conferences, uh, and the coaches in particular in the power

2:12.5

conferences want to expand the, the men's basketball and women's basketball tournaments. And why you have commissioners in particular speaking out for it, because they know that they have coaches that are border. And when they have, you know, borderline coaches every year, they get a chance to make money. They have incentives. Jobs are saved by making the tournament, even if you're the last team in. Jobs are saved if you make the playoff, even if you're the last team in and you have no chance of winning it. So we'll hear from Tony Petiti. He's going to talk. I'm sure a lot about the playoff. He'll talk about TV. He'll get asked about Michigan. And then from there, will Brett Bealema be interesting? I'm not sure, but he is one of the deans of coaches in the Big Ten at this point. So when you look at who people will look to as far as asking questions of coaches in the Big Ten, he's one of those coaches. So for that matter, it might be Greg Shiano, which is kind of nuts in his second go-round with Rutgers. Kurt Signetti, he's got a lot of pressure.

3:07.7

Well, I don't know if pressure is the right word, but there's a lot of attention on him

3:11.0

because his team had such a good regular season last year. They made the playoff last year. They got run out of the playoff last year. They'll get asked, you know, will he be asked if they deserve that spot or not? I doubt. but he's going to be asked,

3:05.4

what's it going to take to get back there?

3:06.6

I can imagine that's going to be his big talking point.

3:08.4

What's it going to take to get back there
