| 0:00.0 | Welcome back inside the Ann Arbor Studios of the Big 1050 WTCA online at the big 1050.com. Coming up at the top of the hour, we're going to hear from Van's Bed for the Michigan football defensive breakdown. But right now, it is time to check in with Michigan offensive coordinator Chip Lindsay, who met with the media yesterday. Now here on the Michigan insider on the Big 1050 WTCA. Just wanted to ask about the tight end usage. Obviously, we saw Marlon get real involved, game one, the last four or five games. Not as much as that just how things have worked out. Are you looking to involve? I think sometimes the covers dictates, you know, where the ball goes. I think that's probably the biggest thing. You know, I think he had a good first game. |
| 0:37.8 | We got a lot of single high covers, cover three, and up to seem different things. |
| 0:41.1 | So, you know, I think he had one catch the other day or something. |
| 0:44.7 | So I just think game by game probably the covers dictates that more than anything. |
| 0:49.1 | And still expect those guys to be. |
| 0:51.4 | We're getting Hogan back too. |
| 0:52.7 | So now we're splitting some reps. |
| 2:35.4 | You know, one guy's not getting all the tight-in reps and mixing Z-March in there and some other guys. So hopefully, you know, as the season goes, those guys will become more involved. But at the end of the day, you know, I think, you know, you can't determine, hey, we're going to throw the ball of this guy. I think the coverage probably dictates that more than anything. Different type of question, but the McCulley touchdown, Jordan Marshall was wide open on the right side, but he probably wasn't for a second or third. But when a guy's that wide open, should you just skip the other ones and get it to him? Or how does that work, I guess? You know, that play is built for man coverage. That's what they were in. Bryce knew that. And, you know, Jordan would be your checkdown if the other two aren't open. So, no, it's a good read by Bryce. Great throw, great catch. And then how is he into his progression of like going through progressions and reading coverages? Bryce? Yeah, he's doing great. I mean, there's a couple. I think there's five plays, six plays maybe the other night. He'd probably wish he had back after watching the film with him. But, you know, for a guy his age and the experience he has, I think he was pretty good. You know, these defensive coordinators do a better job than ever of showing one look and get into something else. That's just something you've got to deal with and comes with experience. But, yeah, no, I thought he did a lot of really good things. I mean, the turnover, obviously, in the red zone, something that really sticks out, taking the sack. We weren't quite in the red zone on both, but we were in the score zone, which is right outside of that. With our kicker, we can't make those mistakes, and he understands that. We'll clean that up. But no, he was, I thought he was really good other than a few things here and there. All right, Zach. How would you assess just the wide receiver room and especially looking after the by-week?, I like, I like obviously McCulley, |
| 2:40.9 | you know, is still playing really well for us. He's, you know, he's a guy that's a big guy that has, |
| 2:46.4 | you know, some matchup advantage for us for sure. And I really, Andrew Marsh is coming on, you know, |
| 2:50.5 | and it just got with him being a freshman, just more and more comfortable with the offense. |
| 2:55.2 | The position he plays requires a little more from the standpoint of moving and around, |
| 2:59.5 | lining up in different spots, having to block support sometimes, not block support sometimes. |
| 3:02.5 | So I just think his natural progression of being a freshman. And when you come here and you have to learn all those things at the next level, |
| 3:06.9 | it takes a little time. |
| 3:08.0 | But, man, the moment's not been too big for him when he's got opportunities. He's made the catch, and I think that's the biggest thing. He and McCulley both when the ball has come to them and they got their hands on. They've caught it for the most part, and that's kind of what we need. And with Bryce and Marsh and McCleolle all just kind of like getting more integrated into the system, do you find that like you can kind of just like let it fly a little bit more? Yeah, I mean, you know, some of the RPO stuff I think he pulled through the other night because the look was for that, which is good. And, you know, some teams play those. Obviously everybody plays them a a little different. But, yeah, I definitely think so. |
| 3:42.1 | I think as we get more and more advanced in the season keeps going, |
| 3:46.6 | I hope hopefully we'll have some more opportunities for those guys. |
| 3:49.9 | Over here in the right, Charles. |
| 3:51.2 | Yeah, how would you evaluate how Bryce has lived through his first six games? |
| 3:54.3 | And what do you think is key to him improving his completion rate? |
| 4:31.2 | Well, I think he's played really well for a freshman, honestly. Again, there's a handful of plays in each game. We all want it back. They don't care if you're him or you're a four-year start or whatever. But no, I think I'm really pleased with the progress he's made, you know, from where he was when he got here to now. That's a big jump. And the best thing about him is he wants to be really good and he's always trying to improve and get better. You see him here all the time staying early and late trying to get extra film and stuff. So again, it's just a maturation process of him getting more and more comfortable and being a first year starter. And I think you see that around the country, whether you're a |
