huge night in college basketball for the Michigan men's basketball team as we welcome you back here on the Michigan Insider and the Big 1050 WTK online at the big 1050.com.

Michigan number one in the country for the first time in the regular season since January of 2013.

And they're taking on the team that was at one point, number one team in the country, the Purdue boiler makers.

Purdue was number one early on in the season. Purdue lost that ranking when they lost to Iowa State. Now, losing to Iowa State in, and that was a home game, but losing to Iowa State, generally speaking, not that big of a deal. I was a really good basketball team. Iowa State last night beat Houston, who had the lone first place vote in the AP poll that Michigan didn't have. They're the number two team in the country. But Iowa State actually went into West Lafayette back in December, and they won 81.58. They won going away. I remember that game. It was a blowout. And I remember turning it on going, this is going to be a good game, and then I turned

it off pretty quickly because it was not.

But Purdue found itself.

Purdue was rolling until the late stages of January.

And then Purdue found it's where it kind of stubbed its toe.

And this is where Purdue fell down into the double digits in rankings and out of the

top 10 because they lost back to back to back

to back games at UCLA by a couple of points at home to Illinois by six points and

then at rival Indiana by five points those three losses in a row on January 20th

24th and 27th were the losses that kind of gave Purdue's act right if you will and

you need a little bit of that during your season.

It doesn't always come in losses.

But the best teams always have a little bit of a reminder of they have some work to do.

You know, for Michigan, hopefully it's a game like the Northwestern game or the game at Penn State.

But Purdue, it seems like, kind of found themselves after that.

Because since then, since they started the month of February, essentially, they are 4-0.

Now, granted, they won at Maryland to Maryland is really not good this year.

They won it home against Oregon.

Oregon is not good.
