Connor, let's flip our attention to the Trojans defense, one that is coordinated by DeAnton

Lynn, a guy who comes from, well, most recently UCLA, but before that, the Ravens Coaching Tree that has produced many of Michigan's recent defensive coordinators.

He was someone that, I think, Michigan had their eyes on when Jesse Minter departed for the NFL.

And I think there were higher expectations for the defense this year because you think, listen, if you pair a Lincoln Riley offense with a solid defense, it doesn't even have to be outstanding, just a solid defense, think of where that program could go.

Unfortunately for the Trojans, that Illinois game, that line I totaled 500 plus yards of offense, 330 yards through the air,

170 yards rushing, both season highs.

It seems like the expectations versus what has happened on the field this year haven't

quite synced up.

Where has that disconnect been?

It's a great question.

So one big thing that happened against Illinois is a couple players on USC were dealing

with the effects of food poisoning and starting center or excuse me, starting safety,

Camari Ramsey, who will be an NFL draft pick after the season, didn't play.

He's the green dock guy.

USC really missed him. That was a big loss. Their best linebacker, Eric Gentry, was also dealing with some of the food poisoning stuff. So what frustrated me, Alejandro, about that whole thing is, of course, that had an effect on that game, but that wasn't the whole story. And the fan base just wanted to run with, oh, they had food poisoning. That's why they played so poorly. And they kind of ignored all the bad stuff that had happened before that game. And on our site, we reached out to everyone we could and said, hey, what's the deal with this food poisoning? How bad was it? How bad was it? And every single person we talked to said a couple guys had it. was too bad that u s these two best defensive players
