When I was a little girl, we had a running joke in our family that the minute dinner was over.

And we all started on our after dinner jobs, such as clearing the tables, doing dishes, sweeping the floor.

I would disappear to the bathroom.

Do any of you moms out there have a child who does this?

I mean, what was I doing in there?

I certainly wasn't actually using the toilet.

Was I reading shampoo bottles, twiddling my thumbs?

I was dawdling and avoiding work.

And now that I'm a mom myself, I realize that this must have been so infuriating to my mother.
