My name is Paul Churchill and I have a confession to make.

I'm 32 years old. I live in southwest

Montana. I share my condo with a standard poodle named Ben and here's the

confession.

In reality, I'm terrified to say this. And I've known this for a fact of what I'm about to say for 10 years,

but every time I say it, I'm still getting used to it.

It stings. It's something I've held hidden, deep dark inside my realm of secrets.

But here it is. I am an alcoholic. I have been sober for 156 days. Now why launch a

podcast revealing to the world that you're an alcoholic?

Great question.

Well, number one, unfortunately, there are selfish motives here.

I have tried to quit drinking alcohol for a long time. I've been struggling with alcohol

for over a decade. A struggle that I have revealed to very few. And I have tried everything to quit drinking alcohol, taking airplane flights across the Atlantic,

moving in different states, switching from Jose Cuervo to Keystone Light,

making rules not drinking before 5 PM, only drinking three nights

a week and marking it on a calendar. I've gone to meetings, I've gone to counselors, I've seen

therapists, I've done so much to try to quit drinking alcohol.

And about four months ago I had an idea. I said, what if I did a podcast about alcohol?

It would hold me accountable.

It would be tough to talk about alcohol and sobriety

and be drinking. That just wouldn't work.
