Note - the movie review segment of this episodes originally ared in KF Show #295. Bernie just INSISTS on mailing it in! We finally let him. -Rob and CD  We saw it! Ryan Gosling plays the Fall Guy in the big screen movie. Any of our fears about this ruining a beloved TV tale about stunts and jump trucks were wrong! The movie is great and while it might be a one and done it could certainly feature sequels too! Gosling plays the Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stunt man that ends up having to solve a mystery, while jumping trucks and doing stunts. Sound familiar? Colt ends up being nearly killed during the opening movie-within-a-movie stunt (that Gosling really did) due to sabotage by the jealous star that he’s doubling. It breaks his confidence and takes him away from the career (and woman) that he loves. But, when Jody the camera girl becomes Jody the director of the biggest baddest stunt movie ever to be made….he comes out of retirement to get it done. And save the relationship. And solve the mystery of the leading man that was dead…..or was he? In it are thrown in intentional meta references, sound effects and songs that will make your hears sing, aliens that make you laugh, all leading to the good guy winning in the end with the help of the girl….and a brown and gold GMC truck. Luke fights two guys to the death basically, and Bo is nearly smeared by a train at the same time. But just like last time we reviewed this if it weren’t for the miniature stunt - which thankfully were minimal - this episode would be an 11 out of 10. The General gets turned into a remote controlled car, set to detail a train full of money with a load of dynamite in the trunk. Boss Hogg was behind the scheme of course, but the Dukes came back and nearly fought to the death to protect the most important their lives: their honor? No. Their fortune? No? Their reputation? NO! It was their car! We have all learned this life lesson, and like them we all know that cars have a soul, need to be protected, and need to be fought for. I give this episode - 10 Corndogs, of which are Season 7 Corndogs, which do not have an equivalent exchange rate to say Season 2 or something. Dukes Review: Bo and Luke intercept some stolen diamonds. The leader of the crime ring fakes her identity as a newspaper reporter and the then hilarity ensues…..as the diamonds are pursued by Boss Hogg and Rosco - and hidden - without their knowledge - with Boss and Rosco, and then the diamonds are turned over to the FBI…..but it’s not the real FBI, it’s the fake FBI. But then Bo and Luke get them back. Everybody got that? In the meantime we get one more childlike fun where Rosco asks Boss to play with a Bugs Bunny doll and Cletus is sent to fetch 7 Corndogs for lunch, 1 for Rosco and 6 for Boss, and line that defines the Dukes of Hazzard that made every kid my age believe that a real stud of a man didn’t throw footballs or play golf - they drove cars fast. 10 Dogs. Neither would be successful without the other! They go into business - to electrify Dodge muscle cars - that provide the sounds to fool the customer into thinking they’re listening to a V8 while they’re just hearing an electric motor spin. Did we mention this movie came out in 2011? In between the car drama, Kevin James wife is cheating on him (and he's doing a few shameful things too). Vince Vaughn is stuck in the dilemma of trying to protect his best friend while dealing with the doubt of others from his past as a gambling addict. The end result is that we get an entirely movie of hilarity and HEMI powered classic Dodges - just for fun! This movie has "real" other actors too! Winona Rider, Jennifer Connately, Channing Tatum, and Queen Latifah round out the ensemble. Even more impressive, the director was a big name too; Ron Howard! I’m telling you, in 2011 someone at Dodge saw this movie and just copied the whole thing. 14 years later, it’s a realty. The new 2025 Charger is electric and has a speaker system of V8 sounds. Even better, we get a bro movie between Vince Vaughn and Kevin James. The only thing that would make it better is if it were Paul Blart Mall Cop 3! Following that, Dolly’s sister goes rogue and tries to kill Public Enemy #1. But then, it all works out and only the bad guy goes to prison, Dolly goes back to Springfield, and Waylon gets back to inappropriate comments about women (which is apparently OK in Season 1). That’s right. This is the Star Trek to Dukes of Hazzard crossover that will have Ryan Brutt and I on the same side of the fight….until this episode is over, of course. Plot: Boss Hogg’s umpteenth previously unnamed nephew shows up in Hazzard to make some ill gotten gains…only to accidentally fall in love with Daisy Duke. That’s all well and good except Boss Hogg, Uncle Jessie, and all of the evil business partners are against it…and to make things worse, the evil guys want Daisy killed before she learns too much! But then the Hogg wants to marry the Duke and the evil partners think it’s so sweet. This leads to every body panel on Rosco’s patrol car being surgically removed in a hilarious fashion, a massive car chase, a few recycled car jumps, and a remarkable amount of improv by Tom and John. While he’s not a car star to us all his movie The French Connection is one the most iconic of it’s day. For many of us, he’s the best part about dozens of movies that we have loved for over 50 years! From The French Connection to Hoosiers, The Replacements, Crimson Tide, even The Royal Tenenbaums, Gene's acting chops marked him as one of the best actors to ever grace the big screen. He'll be missed. As we learned doing research, Gene actually WAS a car guy and had done a considerable amount of racing. This movie is the story we all want; a chance to live up to the potential of something that we loved from our youth and maybe came close to achieving, but for whatever reason failed at, or it fizzled out, or it just ended for reasons we couldn’t control. The Dukes meet a female NASCAR driver and have then do the unthinkable.......they just treat her as a complete equal and respect her highly! Anyway, Daisy gets recruited by Molly Hargrove, a former lady NASCAR driver who needed a new driver to pay her bills…..at any cost.  Her plan is to teach Daisy how to win as a no good dirty evil driver…..someone so heinous they would spin people out on the last lap of the Daytona 500. Can you imagine such a thing? Anyway,  Boss Hogg weasels in on the deal, Bo and Luke beat up bad guys, Daisy quits and Daisy comes back home. This is the episode that made me think becoming a race car driver was super lucrative and that basically driving any car was like driving a stock car as long as it has a window net. Just like Cole Trickle, we're more afraid of being nothing than we are of being hurt. Somehow....that makes this re-run make a lot more sense. Enjoy! Summary: The team that brought you Top Gun, brings you Top Car - better known as Days of Thunder. Both movies feature a wildly talented but undisciplined rebel who is as awesome with driving machinery as he is with the ladies. Both feature a helmet-less motorcycle riding Tom Cruise as the lead who goes through massive success riding his own ego….until his butt can’t cash them when he gets hurt - in one case just mentally, and in the other physically. Both leave him scared to re-engage at the thing he does best...until he basically resolves it in about 20 seconds by realizing….he’d damn well better or his friends were going to die in one case, and in the other they’d just be super bummed they lost the race...and move on with life. Whatever. Both feature a wise father figure Tom Cruise at first rejects the authority of, then later craves the leadership and approval from. Both have Val Kilmer as Iceman playing the uber talented and more successful nemesis turned friend….except in Days of Thunder it’s Michael Rooker playing Rowdy Burns, both have an amazing failure on the first try to woo the leading lady, and both have a dead goose scene...except in days of thunder it was just a bird run over by a rental car. This is the most perfect racing movie of all however, and even today still is adored by fans - and NASCAR drivers - including the current reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion who goes by the name of Rowdy Busch...and runs number 51 on his own race cars outside of the Cup Series. This is the movie that proves to get the girls, you gotta go fast, and if you’re from California you’re not really a yankee...you’re not really from anywhere. K&F Show Summary: It's February, the Super Bowl and the Daytona 500 are right around the corner, Valentine's Day is upon is, and once again Groundhog Day has come and gone. It's 6 more weeks of winter....again! This seemed like a perfect excuse to re-run our classic review of the movie of the same name. What can we say that you don't know already about the movie Groundhog Day? As it turns out...plenty, but mostly because it amused us to do so. This is the epic fable of the blessing - or curse - of repeating a day over and over and over again. Bill Murray stars as the Phil the weatherman from Philly, sent to cover Phil the Groundhog from Punxsutawney give his annual weather prognostication. Only for Phil the weatherman, Phil the Groundhog causes him to re-live his day in Punxsutawney over, and over, and over again. He tries to eat, drink, and kill himself every day...but it fails. Only when he starts doing acts of service and kindness do things improve. Then he finds love and gets out of the cycle, conveniently about when the movie is ready to end. It's fantastic. There's a Chevy C-20 that bites it at one point too. And an Eldorado drives on train tracks. 10-out-of-10 Corndogs. Bo gets amnesia by hitting his head on a rock. In turn Boss convinces him that he is his loving father, and that be needs Bo to be a good son and drive a load of moonshine through Chickasaw county. What’s unbeknownst to Bo but knownst to us that Sheriff Little is there waiting for him….because he hates moonshiners.  This is a fun episode where there’s no point, there’s no lesson, and there’s no dramatic acting - in any way; it’s just just pure automotive escapism. I addition to our year end Christmas Music spectacular game we are pleased to bring you our review of "The Christmas Chronicles" movie starring Kurt Russell. This movie may portray the coolest onscreen Santa ever...and he even knows how to drift a Challenger! This review originally aired in KF Show #281 in 2023.  Movie Summary: Two kids who have lost their dad to tragedy are on the very edge of tragedy themselves…the tragedy of not believing! Teddy the older brother is turning to crime, and Katy the younger sister is innocent. They catch Santa in the act at their house, jump in his sleigh, scare the bejesus out of him, lose the reindeer and the presents, crash the sleigh, steal a red 2009 Dodge Challenger, jump it, end up in jail, then a chop shop, and then have to get it all back together by Christmas morning or the world explodes. Even worse, during the chaos they also lost Santa’s magic hat, which is the think that makes the sleigh fly! At the end though they make it just in time to Save Christmas and Santa finally reveals (in the coolest of Kurt Russell moves) that the hat was a ruse. As Santa Claus himself could (of course) fly the whole time and the whole crazy night was to show Teddy - who was suffering from the loss of his dad - how regain the belief in something himself, and something far bigger. If you're only in it for the cars, the Challenger shines wonderfully. We believe Four Star Motorsports did the prep....and we THINK we have identified the Canadian stunt driver too!  Rating: 10 Little Debbie Christmas Cakes! Were pleased to bring you our favorite review on the only Dukes of Hazzard Christmas episode, S3E9 title the Great Santa Claus Chase. This review originally aired in KF Show #247 in 2022.  Christmas Dukes Review: Somehow, an episode that has next to no General Lee in it…..is so endearing and charming it must be due to Christmas magic! Steve Martin plays Neal Page, an overworked executive just trying to get home two days before Thanksgiving to his family. Del Griffith is a loud mouth overweight blabber mouth salesman that seemingly loves only to talk people to death, followed by enjoying life as a perpetual slob. But this odd couple gets stuck together, and they have the road trip of a lifetime via planes, trains, buses, and automobiles. Along with way hands are shoved into butts, the F-Bomb is laced together in a way that’ll make your mother cry with tears and your dad cry with laughter, and six different Dodge LeBaron’s give their life to become so famous as the best buddy car of all time that it ended up in Deadpool and and Wolverine. This is an absolutely perfect, quotable, re-watchable, funny, thoughtful, sad, loving, and hilarious movie that we’ll all watch on Thanksgiving until we die. 10 Turkey Rolls! Legit Movie Car Facts: -Six custom-painted, green 1986 Dodge 600 convertibles served as comic relief throughout the movie modified with the Lebaron grille, headlights, taillights, and wood siding. . The cars were re-branded as a fictional Gran Detroit, Farm and Country Edition. -Chrysler wanted no part of any relationship with the car. -No actual Town & Country convertibles were destroyed during filming because the studio found plain ’86 Dodge 600s and Chrysler LeBarons, painted them green, and then applied the stock wood trim afterward. -Special “D” hood badges replaced Chrysler ones on convertibles used in the movie. -It is so famous that it made a cameo in Dealpool vs Wolverine -The enormous wire wheel covers were a joke. -The color green was chosen by John Hughes himself to go with the wood siding. The car is a nod to another famous Hughes movie car, the Family Truckster from National Lampoons Vacation.   -Only one of the cars survived and was repainted a cream color. Unfortunately the shows housed and produced by Motor Trend are no more. This does include “Roadkill,” its flagship and genre changing show. It’s a bi-product of being owned by a large conglomerate as well as being a niche of a niche of entertainment media. All episodes filmed not yet released will be aired over the winter of 2025/2025 but no further will be created. We discussed the news of it all and and some point we’ll have Mike Finnegan our friend (and Kibbe and Finnegan show co-founder) on to chat about it. No matter what spin you put on it the reality of Roadkill both creating and changing the automotive space are complexly undeniable. David Frieburger and Mike Finnegan made a team that were the best of the best in automotive tom-foolery entertainment. We loved them too! David Freiburger has given a good explanation the situation along with what’s next for the full band of Motor Trend characters (visit TheDrive.com for more on that). While none of us know whether Roadkill will ever return on a different platform, it does seem like the sun has set on it and this last piece of legacy automotive media is officially over. In the short term we know that everyone has moved on to YouTube (if they hadn’t already) and we can continue to have them in our lives there! Thanks, boys. It was magical! ======================================== Thanksgiving Movie Review: "Tower Heist" K&F Movie Summary: Tower Heist is the automotive Thanksgiving movie classic you didn’t know you were missing until now, especially if you’re Corndog! This movie stars a MASSIVE cadre os actors including Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Alan Alda, Casey Afflect, Tea Leoni, Mechael Pena, and Matthew Broderick. This is the tale of a group of not quite as cool as Oceans 11 people that get taken by a Ponzi scheme by Hawkeye from MASH. And then – to get their money back – they steal Steve McQueen’s Ferrari from the top of Trump Tower during the Thanksgiving Parade, all using a handy roof crane. You will laugh, you will squirm, and you will probably be looking up during the Thanksgiving Day Parade from here on out…..so you don’t get squished by a Ferrari made of gold. Smoke-show married mom "TC Rodgers" returns to Hazzard to run for county supervisor, a job held by Boss Hogg that has a number of privileges, including being the probation officer for Bo and Luke Duke. Bo and Luke help the smoke-show mom because 1) it’s the right thing to do, 2) they think she’s a smoke show, and 3) they do not know she’s a married mom. In helping her win an election they also commit several FCC violations and perform electronic miracles by communicating via CB radio to people on telephones! And you know in the Blue Brothers with they put a loudspeaker on the Bluesmobile?  Well that bit came from this episode too. Unlike the last one that featured a scary self-driving and glowing General Lee as a "spook talkin' medium," this one features a haunted house straight out of Disneyland. A beautiful woman returns home to Hazzard to collect her inheritance, a mansion and it's full collection of antiques, only to learn that it’s haunted. But it’s not REALLY haunted, it’s just full of what we would call today as unwelcome, unsigned, unpaying tenants. They are made up of a father-and-son-bad-guy-team who use the basement as a place to smelt stolen silver into silver bars. The Dukes figure it out, stop the bad guys, and this time LUKE gets the girl. Top that off with an unbelievably funny performance by Boss, Rosco and Cleetus that uses phrases like "doo-dads", "gee-gaws", and "Hogglooms" to describe precious collectibles and you get one outstanding Halloween episode. 10 Silver Bars! Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson play Detectives David Starsky and Ken Hutchison in the 2004 Hollywood remake of Starsky and Hutch. They chase bad-buy-drug-lord Vince Vaughn across fictional Bay City in a hopped up '76 Gran Torino, painted Dodge Viper red with a beefed up small block Ford under the good. They get in a dance off, are accosted by Will Ferrell into acting like naked dragon riders, shoot a pony and a Karmann Ghia, all just to get to the bottom of the mysterious untraceable cocaine deal that Jason Bateman (Vaughn’s henchman) is making happen. This movie is full of one liners, good cars, and a version of Huggy Bear played by Snoop Dogg that’ll give you faith in the underworld. Of course both are the twin brothers Hogg, the good guy dresses in black and the bad guy dresses in white, and both are played by Sorrell Booke, sometimes who is the same character faking being the other character. The same Cadillac plays both roles too, black and white just like the relative suits. And just like we've seen before and will see again, Abe Lincoln Hogg is a character that we've never seen before and never will again, but I’m here to tell you that this episode is one of the golden age of television. It's an age when characters were explained away in half a sentence, the Bible was put in a good light but still taken completely wrong and out of context, and high heels are swapped out for sneakers for jiggling running scenes that end in on screen lady mud wresting. This pre-dates the Ronald Regan presidency and reality in plots, and we may be dumber for watching it. But it’s silly, and fun, and childish, and wonderful. 9 Dogs. I sadly didn’t understand it all coming to an end at that time as a kid, and now as a near 50 year old adult it seems just as hard but yet totally for different reasons. For the last six and a half years we have made a show about a show, and I for one have loved it! Anyway, enough with the sappiness. This is the final episode of the Dukes, John Schneider finally gets to write and direct something…..my High School Nova reappears one last time….and the General Lee actually gets hurt – from, a jump! MOPARTY 2024: We Mopar'd, We Party'd, and We Interviewed Catherine Bach! K&F Show Summary: Live from MOPARTY 2024, and what a trip! At long last the KF Show gang - each and every last one of us - hit the road for Bowling Green Kentucky. "Kibbe Lee" the General Lee came too! There we conducted two days of interview interviews from the field, but featured the best for last with Catherine Bach herself! We were lucky enough to get an entire sit down with her, in fact. Thanks to Kevin Shaw at MOPAR Connection Magazine and Jason and Eddy at Auto Metal Direct we were able to secure a full location from which to create a mobile studio. Catherine signed autographs for fans for an hour and then sat down with us for at least another 30 minutes! Along the way we had several fun guest on the show including Jimi Day from FM3 Performance Marketing (the company behind MOPARTY), Cody Young (@CodyCrafted ), Garrett Daniels (RnDFabworks.com), Nathan Warren (@warren_customs_llc ), Corndog, Bernie, TMCP Show writer Scott Staff, and myself. We did it all too including the Drag Racing, Autocross, Swap meet and the amazing show cars. We got so much content that we put it into two shows, in fact! The Dukes of Hazzard go where many have gone before by using the same actors to play dual roles of themselves…..but this time we get to see the real General Lee vs it’s duplicate while being gloriously directed by Paul Baxley. The plot is terrible, there are editing mistakes a plenty, but General fighting General will leave you ready to fight anyone, anywhere, and anytime! Boss Hogg hires two bad guys - played by one decent actor and one terrible one - to double Bo and Luke, then rob a bank in broad daylight in full of witnesses. The goal - get ride of the Dukes for all. It doesn’t work, we get shots of the General inside that are so great, and multiple jumps worth singing for. We finally reviewed the car movie starring Michael Keaton and Long Duck Dong, and it’s glorious! A fictional Japanese Automotive company decided to expand production into the US in the mid 1980’s…..a lot like the actual companies really did.  And the Japanese have a wholly different work ethic than do regular old Union US Auto Workers.  And that’s true - or was back then. And a well intentioned but perpetually lucky Union Leader talks them into saving an abandoned US automotive plant that was the center of their town. The Japanese agreed, but only if the plant could be run with kaizen; a process of continuous improvement and dedication to work above all else.  So….that didn’t work at all.  But in the end, to save the plant, and save the town, the Japanese and the Americans work together to make something great….and by that, I mean the effort, not the cars.  8 Corndogs! First, we are going to get to the bottom of what a second cousin twice removed is, because on the Dukes in Season 2 that seems to be the clear sailing point for everyone wanting to hook up with everyone. Second, this is the episode with the green General Lee in it. See you there! ======================================== Forever Young K&F Movie Summary from Episode 145: This is a full review of the 1992 Mel Gibson movie, Forever Young. This is the one where Mel is a test pilot in 1939, gets cryogenically frozen for a year to avoid the pain watching his girlfriend die in a hospital slowly, and then waked up over 50 years later to find out he was abandoned by everyone he knew and loved. Only he wasn't.....and if you love history, romance, flying, and Chargers you'll absolutely love this movie. The audio alone is with your time. Yes....we believe the last "Sound Stage" General Lee is the car in this movie, and yes, that's the primary reason we reviewed it. However, this movie gets a Perfect 10 from ALL OF US for just being a great, fun, enjoyable story to watch and enjoy! OK....with that said, the deep dive on the Chargers in this film is somewhat exhaustive and definitely sickening. We can absolutely say FOR SURE that there were two Generals used in the movie, as documented in the episode. Remember, Warner Brothers kept the "Sound-Stage" car as well as one Hero car.  The Sound Stage car was a '68 Charger faked to look like a '69 (grille and taillight changes), and the Hero car was a '69. We feel pretty certain that the '68 was used for the bulk of the movie....except for two interior scenes. Remember these words: DOME LIGHT.  ======================================== See you soon. Any of our fears about this ruining a beloved TV tale about stunts and jump trucks were wrong! The movie is great and while it might be a one and done it could certainly feature sequels too! Gosling plays the Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stunt man that ends up having to solve a mystery, while jumping trucks and doing stunts. Sound familiar? Colt ends up being nearly killed during the opening movie-within-a-movie stunt (that Gosling really did) due to sabotage by the jealous star that he’s doubling. It breaks his confidence and takes him away from the career (and woman) that he loves. But, when Jody the camera girl becomes Jody the director of the biggest baddest stunt movie ever to be made….he comes out of retirement to get it done. And save the relationship. And solve the mystery of the leading man that was dead…..or was he? In it are thrown in intentional meta references, sound effects and songs that will make your hears sing, aliens that make you laugh, all leading to the good guy winning in the end with the help of the girl….and a brown and gold GMC truck. In light of the upcoming "The Fall Guy" movie releasing on May 3, 2024 we decided to do a deep dive on the original TV series and  a preview of the new movie. Even better, we were joined by our own Nathan Warren of Warren Customs as the guest co-host. We don't know anyone that loves Fall Guy trucks (and the TV series) more than Nathan. He even once stated that "it's like the Dukes of Hazzard, only better." The Movie: Our spies in Australia have already seen the movie and sure us that its good, and Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt's promotions have been fantastic to watch! An original (replica) style Fall Guy truck appears in the movie, but the "new" GMC Sierra 1500 appears as the modern day equivalent. It looks to be an entertaining movie, and FINALLY one that will highlight the stunt performers that have always been hidden in the shadows in any Hollywood production. Stuntman Logan Holladay performed an 8.5 barrel-roll stunt for the movie that set a world record in doing it! Even better, Ryan Gosling and SNL's Mikey Day promoted the movie by dressing up as Beavis and Butthead and standing in front of the 2024 Fall Guy Truck. Classic Fall Guy Episode Review:  Season 3 - Episode 3 “Trauma” Written by Lou Shaw, and Michael Halperin Directed by Ted Lange Created by Glen A Larson Airdate: 9/28/1983 Fall Guy Show Summary: Colt Seavers (Lee Majors) hunts down a bad guy who has stolen a town’s treasurers and hides the bad guy from the screaming townsfolk in the secret stash compartment of the truck. Unbeknownst to Colt (but knownst to us) the bad guy hides the key to the town’s treasurers in the trucks’ afore mentioned secret compartment.  That way when he got away later….he could just shoot the driver of the truck (Colt) and get his key back. Easy Peasy. Unfortunately, Colt’s nephew Howie (Douglas Barr) was driving the truck on two wheels with the shows' blonde Daisy Duke equivalent (Jody, played by Heather Thomas). She survived but the nephew was nearly killed, leaving Colt and Heather Thomas right the wrongs.  Hijinks ensue, the catch the bad guy, we see one of the train derailed Knight Rider cars painted white, two more stunt trucks, and lots a jumps. "One Armed Bandits" is the first episode that started it all, and one of the 5 filmed on location in Georgia before it would be relocated to California for the remainder of the series. For purists, the first 5 episodes (and this in particular) is as good, gritty, and as pure as it gets. For me... it's just that weird one they would show in re-runs that was so different than all of the "real" ones from the later seasons I was used to. (I like campy Hollywood-ized versions of stuff.) Anyway, this is the episode where Bo and Luke play Robin Hood - and commit a criminal act against a criminal (Boss Hogg) - to give to the poor. This proves the statement that two wrongs can make a right, apparently. Bo and Luke meet with Cooter in the Starsky and Hutch Torino along with Blake Lively’s dad, burglarize a truck filled with slot machines, place them around town, give the proceeds to the poor, and give the credit to Rosco, helping him get re-elected. Most of the scenes from the opening credit for the run of the show come from this episode and we get to settle once and for all which General Lee of the 3 used in this episode….really came first. Smoke-show married mom "TC Rodgers" returns to Hazzard to run for county supervisor, a job held by Boss Hogg that has a number of privileges, including being the probation officer for Bo and Luke Duke. Bo and Luke help the smoke-show mom because 1) it’s the right thing to do, 2) they think she’s a smoke show, and 3) they do not know she’s a married mom. In helping her win an election they also commit several FCC violations and perform electronic miracles by communicating via CB radio to people on telephones! And you know in the Blue Brothers with they put a loudspeaker on the Bluesmobile?  Well that bit came from this episode too. Anyway, the Smokeshow wins the election, her husband and kid show up, and in a week we’ll never hear from her again….just like the Iowa caucus as of today. See you in 4 years, losers. Unfortunately, the first show of the year for us will kick off with a memorial tribute to the late great Cale Yarborough. Cale passed away on Dec 31, 2023. He was an ironman in NASCAR certainly, but many of us met him initially due to his guest starring roles during Season 2 and Season 7 of the Dukes of Hazzard. Instead of re-reviewing both of these episodes we decided to dedicate this episode to telling the life story of Cale himself. (Full links to both of his episodes are below, and we encourage you to listen to them as well.) There  will be facts here that some of you may know, but many of us didn’t. He was the first ever three-in-a-row NASCAR champion, a record only met (and then broken) by Jimmie Johnson. He won four Daytona 500’s, inclyding two back to back in 1983 and 1984. He pioneered CBS-TV’s use of the John Porter-Peter Larson in-car camera that could tilt and pan, footage of which was used in the Season 7 episode he appeared on during the Dukes. He won the 1983 Daytona 500 in a backup car from a Hardees fast-good restaurant….after flipping his new-for-1983 Monte Carlo in qualifying at 204MPH. He taught himself how to fly an airplane. Possibly most famously, during the first ever flag-to-flag showing of the Daytona 500 on TV, he and the Bobby Allison got in a terrible fight after Cale and Donnie Allison (Bobby’s brother) wrecked for the win on the last lap. When I saw this movie in the theater in 1989 I was the age of Rusty. Now, I’m the age of Clark. I can relate to Clark….I love the lights, I underestimate a lot of things, and like Clark I just want to give my family the perfect Christmas. This movie spawns from the writing genius of John Hughes and the comedic delivery of Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid. Not only does it have the famous scene with the RV dumping into the street sewer, but it has all of the scenes that you can't help but watch over and over again! Clark drives under a log truck, then gives a speech in the mall about logs that’ll leave you not seeing the line, his idiot cousin in law shows up to annoy him to death, but that huge beastly bulging man ends up bringing him the gift that Clark really needed - his Christmas bonus, and perspective on what really matters. This one is a mele kaliki mai of a good one and short of having the Baby Jesus in a manger, it has everything else I love about Christmas.
