U40: Why is recruiting so quiet?

It's a stressful time in the office as the Thunder are down 0-1 and George's marriage may be riding on the outcome of tonight's game. We talk with Josh about what the commitment of Jared Curtis to Georgia means for OU's QB recruiting saga. Coaches are out on the road and making new offers all over the place. Are Jim Nagy and the OU personnel department looking to reshape this roster with different types of athletes? And what is up with the snails pace of recruiting commitments so far this offseason? We also welcome Eddie back from Mexico as he was stranded at a beautiful resort when he got the big On3 news last week. Carey also hates everything on George's wedding registry and wants to go off catalog to get a wedding gift. Go-carts are also potentially disastrous for a bachelor party. U40: Arbuckle should be allowed to pick his own QB

George was under the weather today so we had an OG podcast with Carey, Josh and Eddie. It's been a busy week so we kind of used this podcast to clean up our thoughts on everything that's been going on lately. David Stone and the QB decision. Why shouldn't Ben Arbuckle be able to make his own choice at who he wants his QB to be? We also talked plenty of portal and looked ahead to where the Sooners could go next. The defensive line is a real strength that we probably haven't talked about enough. And coaches are all over the country visiting some of the top prospects on their board. Some reminiscing, so old school podcasting, the original crew is back together and remind you of the greatness that was the start of the Unofficial 40. U40: The portal is being good to Oklahoma

With the announcement that Jake Maikkalu and Jaydn Ott signed with Oklahoma football the day before the portal officially opened, OU made a big statement that they are willing to do what it takes to get back on track. We talk about what the signings mean for the Sooners as well as what the portal still could hold in store. We also dive into where we are as a sport right now with Nico Iamaleava and why we feel better about OU's approach with Jim Nagy in this age of chasing the bag. Josh recaps the Houston Under Armour and we talk about Ben Arbuckle's 2007 quarterback and how far along he is in that process as well as where the Sooners stand with one of their top 2006 recruiting prospects. High School spring football gets set to start at a lot of schools in Texas. The baseball team got a big run rule over Oklahoma State last night and today is the day that Aalyah Chavez can officially sign with the Sooners. U40: The height of spring arrives with the Crimson... Combine???

The Unofficial 40 is back and we're ready for another magical time of the year as OU puts on their spring finale, the Masters is underway and we're on the verge of recruiting awesomeness with high school spring football and summer camps. But we've also had some interesting developments in the NIL space with the House vs. NCAA settlement being in the spotlight on Monday. What comes out of that? And does that bring us any closer to settling the mess that is NIL? Meanwhile, hoops is paying out some real money and landing big players in the portal. And we talk about the Crimson Combine. What might it look like? Is it worth attending? Here's a hint, we don't know, but what else are you gonna do with your $10 on a Saturday with perfect weather. The bats have also gone silent for Skip Johnson's baseball team. U40: Biggest positives taken away from 4 football viewings

The gang is back in the studio together on the heels of another football practice viewing. The linebacker group appears to be stacking some depth at the position even with the losses of Danny Stutsman to the NFL and Jaren Kanak to tight end. That's because Sammy Omosigho appears to be transitioning to the MIKE linebacker spot quite well. And players continually rave about Kendal Daniels being on campus. We also got to see some one-on-one battles but the Internet commentary might have been a little over the top after people saw the video. We have observations about Ben Arbuckle, Kevin Wilson and Brent Venables and how they react to things during practices. We also talk Trae Young being named an assistant GM for the basketball program and what that job description might look like. Josh is in with the latest in the recruiting world, especially the QB position. We also take a stab at who OU might look to land in the transfer portal this spring. We are getting ready for the Final Four in men's and women's hoops and the diamond sports had some losses this weekend. A big show this week! Dive in! U40: We are back out at spring practices and women's hoops rules

Josh is back from his cruise and in his absence, OU lost a running back battle to Texas A&M for Jonathan Hatton. Where does OU stand at the running back position? Could they be looking to the portal for their next big bruiser out of the backfield? Jennie Baranczyk also pulled off one of the biggest commitments in OU women's basketball history when Aaliyah Chavez, the nation's No. 1 player, committed to OU yesterday. And it seems more and more likely that Porter Moser will return to OU unless some things change quickly. How can OU improve their men's NIL to truly compete with the big boys? And we've got more impressions about the team after another viewing session on Tuesday. We also got to talk to several players after practice. You'll hear our impressions on the attitude of this team and the development of the offense. OU baseball has won both of its SEC series so far this season but it's about to get a lot tougher. And softball finally loses their first game of the season. It's a spring sports jam-packed edition of the Unofficial 40. U40: Breaking down everything we've seen and heard about spring practices

Spring practices are in full spring as we've now had two viewing sessions and a Pro Day to take in since last week. Carey, Josh, Eddie and George breakdown what they've witnessed out on the practice fields and what they've been hearing behind the scenes. We go over the newcomers that have stood out, the players fans want to see more of that have been on campus, like Davon Mitchell, and basically cover our impressions from every position group up to this point. Some players we thought were injured or limited are getting more action than we expected. We dive deep into what we're seeing from the offensive line and talk about what the starting lineup could look like coming out of spring. It's better to just dive into the podcast and hear for yourself. Josh updates with some recruiting updates and the guys were really impressed seeing Zane Row out at practice Monday. Kid is getting bigger and bigger every time we see him. We also talk about Trace Ford's impressive day out at Pro Day. Hoops is getting set to tip off tonight in Nashville and the women await their NCAA Tournament seeding after a good showing in the SEC Tourney. U40: OU football's General Manager is probably a little bit different than most

Oklahoma football introduced Jim Nagy as Oklahoma's new General Manager. And Carey says there is way more to OU's vision than most college programs right now. We talk about our impressions of Nagy's approach and what he had to say yesterday. Brent Venables also spoke to the media for the first time since the Armed Forces Bowl. He dropped some injury news and we have plenty to say about that as well. John Mateer took to the podium and his comments gave people a first look at who he really is. So who is he? Brent's explanation about cancelling the spring game did make a lot of sense. But some of us still think it would have been smarter to put together some type of game for the good of OU's pocket books, especially with OU needing as much money as possible for revenue sharing and NIL. Josh updates us on the latest in recruiting and with Future Freaks coming up. Also, can Porter Moser save his job? What does it mean if the men's basketball team makes the NCAA Tournament? Could he still be fired? Should he? We break down everything spring in this edition of the Unofficial 40. THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! Spring football has begun. U40: Jim Nagy is OU's new General Manager. We break it down.

OU announced they have hired former Executive Director of the Senior Bowl, Jim Nagy, to fill their General Manager role for OU football. Carey, Josh, Eddie and George are here to breakdown the hire and what happens next. Fans have reason for excitement as this is one of the biggest and flashiest hires in college football this offseason. How do Nagy and Brent Venables and Joe Castiglione work together? Will there be any issues to work through regarding personnel, recruiting, scouting, NIL, etc.? And what are we hearing about how Nagy fits into the athletic department? Just a lot to work through on a huge news day. We also get in some Porter Moser talk as OU basketball needs to continue to momentum down the stretch. U40: Go away ice and freezing temps. It's time for spring sports

The ice has cleared from the roads and we were finally back in the studio for a marathon edition of the Unofficial 40. Joe Castiglione released an email detailing OU's plan with NIL moving forward and it caught some people by surprise. Isn't money still king when it comes to NIL though? We discuss. The SEC and Big Ten are trying to take control of the College Football Playoff. Are we OK with that? The baseball team is off to a strong start. But we are looking forward to seeing more. Got warmer Oklahoma! And we dive back into the basketball situation. Is the panel unanimous on moving on from Porter Moser? Josh is here to talk recruiting and new info since the Monday Recruiting Report. We also discuss Steve Wiltfon's new intel surround OU QB target Bowe Bentley. U40: Who is on the hottest seat in the athletic department

The guys gather back after a freeze took over OKC on Wednesday and we're airing grievances. Men's basketball is falling off a cliff once again, so where do things stand with Porter Moser? And with that said, where do things stand with Joe Castiglione. With Brent Venables coaching for his job in 2025, how far behind is Castiglone? The guys discuss where everything currently stands in the athletic department. We're also breaking down what has gone wrong with the OU basketball program. How much has a lack of NIL hurt OU hoops? And who would even take over the job at Oklahoma the way things are. It also seems like the new entertainment district is dead with a new mayor taking over in Norman. U40: Could the OU spring football game disappear?

With just one more football game left, we're about to officially hit the offseason. But the Thunder are getting back Chet Holmgren Friday night! In other OU news, signing day has come and gone and we wonder how coaches and front offices will co-exist in the recruiting game. OU fans were criticized by the SEC announcers during the OU-Auburn basketball game and it sent us down a rabbit hole of exciting OU basketball teams over the years. We also talk about the future of spring football games. George used to cover the NFL and we talk about NFL offseasons vs. college offseasons and how they might start looking more and more similar. There is a framework being worked on by members of the Power 4 conferences to rein in NIL and make things more manageable for colleges. But there is still so much work to be done to make NIL what it was supposed to be. And can it ever really be what it was supposed to be? And happy Superbowl weekend everybody! Whether the Chiefs or Eagles win, there will be Sooners on one side taking home a NFL Championship. THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: More from OU's big recruiting weekend, latest on staff hires

The Sooners are hitting the recruiting trail and making a mad dash to make big impressions. And it looks like they are. Coaches are all over the country making visits to homes and high schools. And even though Brent Venables doesn't have an official defensive coordinator, it's not slowing him or his staff down from making good impressions on defensive talent. But the surprise so far is what Ben Arbuckle and the offensive staff have been doing on the recruiting trail. After a very successful junior day, the Sooners picked up a commitment from 4-star WR Daniel Odom. Are they close on another big time pass rusher? We also delve into OU's build of a personnel department with a General Manager. The process is underway. What to expect? We've got that too. We've got some hoops talk and of course some updates on George's wedding. And it appears betrayal is in the air as one key member of the Scoop staff has already said he won't be coming. U40: High School recruiting is a thing again, still in neutral on Knowles movement

It's Wednesday and we're still waiting. As we continue to monitor the Jim Knowles/defensive coordinator situation, we're still waiting in neutral with no new news developing at the time of the podcast. Why is that? We explain. It's also ramping up on the recruiting trail as coaches are out making visits. There is also a massive junior day coming up. Josh McCuisition is here with all the details of what's going on with the high schoolers. We talk a little bit about the national championship and the men's hoops team finally wins a SEC basketball game. And they did it in blowout fashion. U40: We're back talking Jim Knowles

The gang is back as we've seen plenty of reaction to us naming Jim Knowles as a potential candidate for the open defensive coordinator job. And we're here for everyone's doubts. We think it's crazy too. Josh gives his thoughts on the Navy All-American game and Ryan Fodje's day at center. We're also looking at OU's two-deep and we keep getting positive vibes about the future of the offensive line. How has OU done in the portal since it started? George has some kind of depressing numbers to share. And we also talk about the possibilities of Jaren Kanak as an offensive player. Josh took off to San Antonio for a day of Navy All-American bowl practices where he caught up with OU commitments Ryan Fodje and Trystan Haynes. Find out from Josh how guys performed and some of the takeaways from talking to players after practice. We recap the latest from the portal as R Mason Thomas is back and the Sooners land a couple of nice defensive additions from the portal. Which goes to speak how players are viewing the defense without a defensive coordinator. And on that subject, what about the rumors that are surfacing about Ohio State DC Jim Knowles having potential interest in coming to Norman. U40: The future of OU football's front office is being built now

On this episode of the Unofficial 40, we are talking about the changes to Oklahoma football from a General Manager perspective. Chuck Lillie is leaving for a GM role with West Virginia and everyone wants to know what that means. We are diving into OU's plans for the future as the football program will develop a front office structure more similar to the NFL. What that means and who that affects are questions that still need to be answered. But we breakdown what we know and what that means for the future of OU football and college sports in general. With the outflow of players to the portal, we're also starting to get a feel for what the team is going to look like next season. A lot of unanswered questions there too at certain positions. But we feel pretty good about the overall strength of this roster as things stand today. One player we're still waiting on to declare his future is R Mason Thomas. He put out an interesting video today. And Michael Fasusi shined this week during Under Armour practices. Josh tells us what that means moving forward. And we have some general CFP discussion to round things out. U40: Zac Alley gone. What is happening inside the Switzer Center?

It's the SchwabMeat.com Unofficial 40. We've been a little all over the place with podcasts lately, so here we are again. Zac Alley has left Brent Venables for West Virginia. The gang is here to breakdown what happened as we know it. What does this mean for the future and more importantly, what does this say about the direction of the program under Brent Venables? The changes in this football program are going to make things look a lot different as NIL and front office personnel become a reality. Carey and George breakdown what's happening and why that will affect everything moving forward. And other staff changes coming? We talk about potential changes in the coaching staff and on the faculty side. As things stand, Venables is going to get another year to try and fix this football program. But can it be fixed? We also talk about Joe Castiglione's role in all of this. It's an informative pod, but maybe not the easiest listen to get through all the things going on inside the OU football program. We do lighten things up with tales from Eddie and George's weddings they were attending while all this was going down. And George is taken to the court of public opinion after potentially betraying Carey after he was given Christmas gifts. Also George ran into the infamous Grimlock at his wedding. U40: The crazy details of OU landing John Mateer

It's the Unofficial 40 presented by SchwabMeat.com. In this episode we stayed up late and waited for the decision from Washington State quarterback transfer John Mateer. Now that Mateer's a Sooner will tell you about some of the crazy details we learned about how this all came to be. A bizarre battle between NFL legends and NFL Sooner legends to be erupted. In the end, OU donors and the 1Oklahoma Collective did a ton of work to make sure the Sooners secured Mateer. The momentum continues with Mateer on board and the portal recruiting continues with the hope of bringing in even more receivers. We're still a bit concerned about the tight end room as we try and find answers how to fix that situation. A full recap of everything that happened on another crazy day for the Sooners. U40: Portal madness might be tearing us apart

The Unofficial 40 brought to you by SchwabMeat.com. It's day 3 of the transfer portal and the Sooners are starting to take in visitors with decisions starting to come. Andrel Anthony enters the portal and now the Sooners have lost Anthony, Jalil Farooq and Nic Anderson. Deion Burks, you're our only hope! And what the hell is going on at the tight end position? Is Joe Jon Finley doing anything in the portal? We're trying to figure out what is happening there. None of these has been easy, and the fans are understandably up in arms. What about the finances of this entire thing? Where is the big donor money? Most of it is going to secure key players already on the roster. U40: Ben Arbuckle is the new OC, and he kept the whole staff?

It's a massive podcast with so much to cover over the last few days. Ben Arbuckle was hired as Oklahoma's new offensive coordinator and then Brent Venables announced that all of Seth Littrell's assistant coaches would be retained. Are we really buying that? Or is this just a united front for signing day? And who will be OU's quarterback in 2025? Is it better to sign Washington State's John Mateer in the portal for instant chemistry? Or should the Sooners try and stick behind Jackson Arnold, mend those fences and rely on his ceiling and potential to lead the offense into 2025? Much more on Arbuckle but we take a look at signing day as well and portal season which comes next. Will the Sooners lose Michael Fasusi or Cortez Mills on signing day? Texas and Nebraska are pulling at them. We also talk some hoops after OU wins the Battle 4 Atlantis and Joe Castiglione declares his vision for the future of the football program in the age of revenue sharing. U40: Signing day, coaching search, transfer portal all colliding

It's the Schwab's Meat Unofficial 40! It's a crazy time of the year as the Sooners are trying to finish off a 7-5 season as they travel to Baton Rouge to take on LSU at Death Valley. The offensive line is showing promise and Xavier Robinson is becoming a force out of the backfield. But with all of that going on, the Sooners still have to make an offensive coordinator hire. We talk about the latest in the search for the new offensive coordinator and how that will affect everything in the OU football program. Jackson Arnold's future, Bill Bedenbaugh's recruiting class, including Michael Fasusi. And how will that affect other players that may be needed to be replaced in the portal? So many moving parts depending on this one hire. And what staff members will be retained? We keep going and going and going on how things could shake out in the next 7 days. U40: Narrowing down OU's offensive coordinator search

The gang is back to talk about the biggest issues surrounding OU football. Where is Brent Venables on his offensive coordinator hire? What are the names to still keep on the board and who can we take off? We breakdown why it was or wasn't the right fit for some candidates while others are coming more into focus as being potential hires. What is the latest with 5-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi? Has Josh been ghosted? Have the coaches been ghosted? Is there still a good chance Fasusi ends up signing with the Sooners? We breakdown that situation as well. Oh yeah, the Sooners are playing Alabama. George doesn't care. We also have an injury report coming out tonight. Is OU getting back some offensive linemen? And we talk about Brent Venables visit policy as it concerns Fasusi. What does the policy mean and how are people overreacting to what it really means. Welcome. U40: Examining the vote of confidence for Brent Venables

It's the middle of the week on a bye week. But yesterday's Board of Regents meeting gave us some answers as to where Brent Venables sits and his future. President Joe Harroz and AD Joe Castiglione both went on record lending support to Venables. We talk about the road forward. What happens to the quarterback room? Where we see Oklahoma looking for an offensive coordinator. What would it mean to buy out Venables now? Both financially and program stability. There are a lot of numbers thrown around. But the true cost is much, much higher. We still haven't seen in cracks in the recruiting front and signing day is just a few weeks away. And what does signing day even look like now? Lots to go over in this week's edition of the Unofficial 40. THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the Unofficial40! Do not. U40: Missouri is biggest game of Brent Venables era

The gang is back and we're all pretty jacked for Oklahoma versus Missouri this weekend in Columbia. The Sooners have become the betting favorite. They have more momentum than they've had all season on offense. The defense is still playing well in a lot of areas and Brent Venables is poised to become bowl eligible. That's not something a lot of people had hope in after South Carolina. Has Jackson Arnold become a new quarterback and come out of his benching with a renewed sense of confidence? Is the OU run game getting to a point where it can help the offense produce explosive plays in the passing game? Is the offensive line any better? Or will we quickly find out not much has changed? And is there help on the way at receiver with Jalil Farooq and Deion Burks? What would a win at Missouri do for recruiting momentum with Alabama coming to town for the final home game of the 2024 season. It's a lot to get through as this roller coaster of a season reaches the top of its biggest peak. THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the Unofficial40! U40: Fixing the offense is still the gravest of concerns

The entire crew has plenty to break down from the hour long Brent Venables press conference on Tuesday. And with Maine coming to town, it's a perfect week to work on this offense. What have we liked from Joe Jon Finley and Kevin Johns after the Ole Miss game? And how does OU hold things together on the roster and the recruiting trail while Brent Venables makes the OC hire that will determine if he survives as OU's head coach. Have we been surprised or did the move to the SEC just confirm what we thought? Injuries are still ravaging the OU roster but the goal ahead has to be building even more depth. Plenty of people have had their say in Bill Bedenbaugh's future, but Venables defended him quite staunchly yesterday. How do we see his future in Norman? And how much are the Sooners willing to spend on a new OC? Josh gives us an update on the recruiting trail and we also talk a lot about the tight end position and the clamoring to see Davon Mitchell out on the field. U40: Should OU just play the young guys on the OL? The OC search begins

On this episode of the Unofficial 40 we're getting ready for the Sooners to take on Ole Miss. How much hope do Sooner fans have that OU can actually win a tough game this season? Has all hope been lost? We have plenty of opinions on how OU should handle the offensive line situation moving forward. Jacob Jordan was impressive last week. But how bad has some of the OU receiver production been this season? We take a look at some numbers. And those numbers are not fun to look at. How does the administration feel about everything that has transpired? How secure is Brent Venables' job right now? And how much difference can someone like Kevin Johns make with this offense moving forward. Plenty of ups and downs in the season and just as many in this episode as Carey starts to hope again but everyone else is not willing to join him. U40: South Carolina may determine the future of OU's offense

The Sooners are at a crossroads as South Carolina heads to town. The offense is full of mistakes and Brent Venables is finally talking about it. The future of the quarterback position may depend on Michael Hawkins Jr.'s performance against the Gamecocks. How do we see Saturday breaking down for the QBs? Brent Venables held his weekly press conference and Josh and Carey had a chance to weigh in on what was said. It wasn't all bad. The Sooners had a true freshman shine on the defensive side of the ball. And we breakdown the future of the offensive line and what things look like moving forward there. How about injured receivers. U40: What has to happen for OU to beat Texas?

It's OU-TX in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Quinn Ewers expected to return. OU's defense expected to be there. Michael Hawkins Jr., becomes the first true freshman to lead the Sooners into this battle with just six other redshirt freshman doing it before. What weapons will Hawkins have available? Will he have to carry the Sooners on his shoulders? And will Ewers be rusty at all? Can the OU defense continue to hold up? Has Texas played a team like the Sooners? Or are they just a default No. 1 right now? So many questions to be answered. We go over everything we can think to go over. Josh is here to talk about the recruits who should be taking in the game from the stands as well. We also talk about the transfer portal and signing day and how this is all changing right now. U40: Taking Stock: The tight end room problem. Jackson Arnold's future.

It's a bye week in Norman so on this week's Unofficial 40 we start out talking a little recruiting with Josh McCuistion. Have the Sooners made a mistake not putting together a bigger push for tight end Dakotah Terrell from Pocola? We also breakdown what's going on with the tight end position in recruiting as well as a potential new commit at the linebacker position. With Texas coming up and Michael Hawkins Jr., establishing himself as QB1 coming out of Auburn, how would a big performance against Texas affect the future of Jackson Arnold in Norman. We're going hypothetical. Brent Venables actually answered George's injury questions without wanting to kill him on the SEC teleconference. What we're hearing on the injury front heading into Texas. Texas is off. OU is off. We should have a relatively healthy couple of teams in the Cotton Bowl next week. THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the Unofficial40! U40: Will OU's offense be better or worse against Auburn?

SEC firsts haven't gone well for Oklahoma. After a 25-15 loss to Tennessee in their SEC home opener, the Sooners travel to Auburn, Ala., for their SEC road opener. In this episode we talk about the QB change from Jackson Arnold to Michael Hawkins Jr. We also breakdown the position coaches on offense. Who is pulling their weight? Anyone? Blocking has become a massive issue for this offense. Turnovers at the worst time as well. Can Hawkins step up and fill the void against a stiff Auburn defense? How will the defense replace Kendel Dolby at the cheetah position? Trace Ford did it a week ago, but this Auburn offense has had interception issues. And we loved hearing from Brent Venables this week during his weekly press conference. He was direct and honest about the issues plaguing his team and in particular, his offense. Trying to diagnose the injury situation has become a full-time affair and we're trying to figure that out with Andrel Anthony and Nic Anderson. Usually during game weeks, you get a little worn out talking about the same things over and over. But not this week. This is the week you love to try and figure out exactly what we could see happen in the biggest matchup in college football this weekend. Or at least what everyone thinks is going to be the biggest matchup. OU's offense line? Uggh. Can it hold up? Can it protect Jackson Arnold? Can it help the run game? Who will be back? And of course, we've seen what you've been saying on the Crimson Corner, X and the YouTube comments section. And now it's Wednesday and we all have different perspectives Carey, Josh, Eddie and George have gathered to talk about what we've learned this week and where the Sooners are heading as they get ready to take on Tulane. U40: What can be fixed and who can step up on offense for Houston?

Is the Scoop staff at war with each other over the offensive line situation? Maybe. But mainly we're all just trying to figure out who the hell is going to be the starting center Saturday against Houston. Injuries have ravaged the interior of the OU offensive line and even Brent Venables seemed a bit put off by answering questions about it this week at his weekly press conference. (George did it). And we really dig deep into who could be the youngsters to step up at the receiver position. But then the good happens. We start talking about the defense and the depth and talent that is being developed by Brent Venables in Norman. The Sooners are legitimately two-deep at a lot of positions. And we liked a lot of what we saw from the defensive line last weekend. But again, it's only one game and it was against a pretty bad Temple team. Josh is here to hit on some recruiting as the Tennessee weekend is looking like one to watch for all you recruitniks. The latest with Cortez Mills and Andrew Babalola as well. We also take a look around at college football and the teams that have been duds so far in the early season. Florida State and Florida? We're looking at you. U40: Trying to decipher what hidden meanings the depth chart may contain

So many developments this week as the Sooners get ready to take on Temple inside Gaylor Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Friday night. We talk about some of our player access this week along with George's excellent profile on Jackson Arnold finally getting to the point where it's his time to shine. We also try and decipher where David Stone really sits on the defensive line when this is all said and done. Is Jayden Jackson the difference maker we all feel he is being made out to be? Or is this depth chart deception that has us taking a deeper dive into what this all means? We're really getting in the weeds with the depth chart. And what about guys like Deion Burks? Guys we talked about and drooled over all spring? He's just kind of flown under the radar. Temple appears to be a bad football team. If OU is dominating at halftime then will anyone but backups play after halftime. And what is this offensive line going to look like on the first offensive snap of the game? Who will be out there? Josh is here for a little bit of recruiting talk and we're really getting prepared to see some football. Can't Wait!!! THE FULL RUNDOWN FOLLOWS BELOW: 0:00 - Welcome back to the U40! U40: How will the Sooners approach the season opener? Will they hold back?

This week's episode of the Unofficial 40 is presented by the Oklahoma Zooligical Society's 16th annual ZOObrew presented by Byron's Liquor Warehouse. Event to take place at the OKC Zoo September 27th! We're inching closer and closer to the season as the Sooners get ready for their season opener. After a full preseason camp we've gleaned a lot of information from interviews and sources. But there are a lot of things we still wonder about. And not just about how players will perform. How will Seth Littrell's offense look to start the season. Will they be holding things back for SEC play? Or will they just let Jackson Arnold let it fly so he can gain confidence early? U40: Reporting back from SEC Media Days and Josh speaks!

So much to talk about after the gang returns back from SEC Media Days. Brent Venables seemed different this year as the head coach of the Sooners. And it was in a very good way. We talk about impressions from everything that went down with the Sooners this week and more. And what about the conference-wide reception of the Sooners from everyone in attendance? Are the Sooners being treated like a bunch of poors? We also breakdown what we think might happen in the SEC. Who is the dark horse that could upset a lot of these predictions of Missouri and Ole Miss making a run at Alabama and Georgia? And how many people know what OU's record actually was last year and who they actually beat? Josh is back and in action as recruiting for 2025 is coming to a close already. He gives us the latest on OU's remaining targets for the class. We also take a look ahead at what's to come for OU with the start of preseason football. U40: We have reached powerless Josh and SEC Media Days coming

We finally reach Josh who has been without power on the outskirts of Houston for days with no idea when he will be back. He finally gets a chance to address Lamont Rogers and talk about the rest of the OL recruiting class the Sooners are chasing. Also just an update on his life. Which is in shambles. As we all ask? Why do you live in Houston??? Big 12 media days have started and it has a feeling some kind of way about change. Although we couldn't be happier to be going to Dallas next week instead of Vegas in 125-degree weather. We'll be there, along with Jackson Arnold, Danny Stutsman, Billy Bowman and Brent Venables. And we're ready to get down to business talking college football. Talking season has arrived. We also talk about the return of Jeremiah Criddell to Oklahoma as a graduate assistant coach. U40: A lot of opinions out there concerning OU's position in the SEC

What a wild start to the pod this week. We welcome in an uninvited visitor that we still don't know a lot about. But Calf Tat Josh was here for the rescue. The first nine minutes of this podcast are frankly, kind of insane. We also introduce you to another visitor this week that knew all about the Unofficial 40. Let's just say that Tad and Leslie from Orlando are raising their children right. They drove all the way from Orlando and came to SoonerScoopHQ to try and meet Carey. Not Eddie, not George, but Carey. Their children Freddy and Faith are big fans of the show and they have memorized the opening to the podcast. And they prove it in studio! We also take a look back at a wild week of Eddie and George being introduced to the SEC fans through the Paul Finebaum Show. Joe Castiglione had quite the mic drop moment on SEC Now as well. But also, we get knee deep into some football talk as July has started. We take a look at OU's position in the SEC and ask why some national media still don't seem to get it. Or maybe we're just the homers. There has also been some movement along offensive line recruiting and Josh is here to fill us in on the latest. BACITRACIN!
