Keesby. And that is the sound of Ukrainian President Volodemeer Zelensky descending from the

sky in a helicopter at the luxury Swiss resort of Bergenstock at Lake Luceen this morning.

He's hosting a peace summit there with the aim of discussing the principles for ending the

conflict in Ukraine. Leaders from the G7 states are there, some 90 other

countries and global institutions also represented. Russia, though, whose invasion began the war

is not represented.

Earlier the Ukrainian MP Ivana Klimpus

Tsinsadje told the BBC that the summit was a step in the right direction.

I do not expect that this summit is going to set the full

settlement so to say for the war but this is a good first step trying to set the agenda that is important and principled for the

Ukrainian national interests and for our vision so therefore it's important that

we are trying to explain ourselves, we are trying to get countries

around that vision and are trying to set the common denominator for further common position in this conflict.

Well as I mentioned Russian President Validimir Putin has not been invited to this summit in Switzerland. Yesterday he

dismissed the event and the agreement struck by G7 states among other things

to allow the interest of frozen Russian assets to finance a loan for Ukraine's

defense. He said only Kyiv giving up their defense of eastern provinces would end the war.
