Summary

Do you ever find yourself saying the all too common phrase, I just don't have the time to exercise.

We've all been there before, so if you find yourself on a time crunch, here are a few powerful SPARTAN exercises that you can do at home, no matter where you live!

NOTE: This episode works best if you can watch the video to see how the exercises should be performed!

LESSONS:

  • You can exercise at home or outdoors, no gym needed, with these 3 simple and effective exercises.
  • Sandbag Shouldering: Keep a flat back and pull the bag up onto your shoulder, alternating shoulders for reps or time.
  • Carry: You can carry any object. Always lift with a flat back and mix up the position you carry the object (shoulder, on your back, or in front of the body)
  • Clean & Throw: Throwing a medicine ball or stone is a great way to develop power and conditioning.

Do you ever say to yourself, I just don't have time to exercise?

Spartans, welcome back to another episode of the Spartan Way Podcast.

0:11.0

I'm your host, Zach Avenesh. Now, those of you that are listening, you want to try to visualize

0:17.5

and hopefully come back and check out the video where I demonstrate these three favorite exercises that I love to use. Now here we've got

0:25.6

what's called a Spartan sandball. It looks like a large basketball but it's filled with

0:30.8

sand. But if you're training maybe outdoors and you're in more of a rural area you could use a

0:36.6

stone or if you're in a apartment you could take a book bag and fill it up with old books.

0:42.9

So I'm going to demonstrate my first exercise

0:46.0

with the sandball, and it's called shouldering.

0:49.1

So for those of you listening,

0:50.8

just try to visualize that this is what you'll be doing. I stand over the

0:54.8

ball or the object with my feet a little wider than shoulder width. I'm gonna

0:59.3

squat down with a flat back and I'm just gonna pull the ball up to my shoulder. Flat back,

1:05.1

chest tall, pull it up to the shoulder, catch it on your shoulder, and then go down

1:10.2

under control. If you're outdoors you could pull the ball or the sandbag

1:15.5

over your shoulder and let it just fall onto the ground. Then we alternate to the

1:20.2

other shoulder. Flat back, chest tall, pull it up, hold it for a one count, put it down

1:27.1

with a flat back. I want to demonstrate from the side so you can see what the back looks like.

1:31.7

This is the correct position.

1:34.2

This would be the wrong dangerous position.

1:36.6

So if you're listening, your hips shouldn't be up in the air.

1:40.0

You should have your butt down and your chest tall and you want to keep the ball or the object close to your chest when you pick it up.
