0:00.0	Sometimes you'll hear Christians give their testimony, and they will explain it by saying,
0:05.9	now I have a personal relationship with Christ.
0:12.4	What kind of a relationship did that person have before they would convert it to Christ?
0:22.9	A personal relationship to God is inescapable.
0:29.1	Sometimes you'll hear Christians give their testimonies of being saved or being born again,
0:35.0	and they will explain it by saying something like this.
0:38.3	Well, now I have a personal relationship with Christ, or now I have a personal relationship with God.
0:46.3	You've heard that form of expression.
0:48.3	And I think we understand what people are saying.
0:51.3	But what is often overlooked in that discussion is what kind of a relationship
0:57.3	did that person have before they were born again or before they would convert it to Christ?
1:06.2	What is often overlooked is that we always have a personal relationship to God, because we are persons,
1:16.1	and God is a person, and a relationship is established in creation between God and us,
1:26.2	a relationship that is inescapable. I can deny the existence of God.
1:31.9	All that does is put me in an estranged relationship to God, which is still a personal relationship.
1:40.2	It is a personal relationship of hostility, a personal relationship of denial, a personal
1:46.3	relationship of estrangement, but it is still a personal relationship.
1:52.6	That is inescapable.
1:54.7	There's nowhere that we can flee in this universe from our ultimate relationship to God. So the question is not whether there is a personal
2:03.7	relationship, but what is the quality of that personal relationship? Is it a healthy one or an
2:10.3	unhealthy one? A redeemed one or an estranged one?
