Okay, before we dive in to Matthew 19, you know what we do, we pray, because we want God

to lead us. Our Father, we do ask you to lead us in understanding your word today. Here in the

book of Matthew chapter 19, anoint me to teach rightly, anoint those who are listening to

receive your word and to do with it what you want them to do.

We ask it in Jesus' name, amen.

Okay, friends, now Jesus has just been teaching his disciples that it is difficult for rich people to enter the kingdom because of the distraction that riches can be.

And Peter kind of derives from that, that,

aha, uh-huh, uh-huh, you have to be able to sacrifice in order to get into the kingdom.

And so he brings up that subject here in verse number 27. Then Peter said in reply,

See, we've left everything and followed you. What then will we have?

Jesus said to them, truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the son of man will sit on his glorious throne, you see, there's a reference to the kingdom.

You, who have followed me, will also sit on 12 thrones, judging the 12 tribes of Israel.

And everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life.

But many who are first will be last and the last first.

So Peter's question was not entirely off base, was it?

Jesus affirms by his answer that Peter's thinking along the right line.
