The reason that you have such a hard time loving people,

caring for people who are annoying,

people who are difficult, who are frustrating,

and make you angry, is not because of them.

It's because your love for God is broken.

You fix that.

You get that in order, and you'll be amazed at how your love for people

will come alive and your relationships will begin to heal and flourish.

My wife is amazing at loving, difficult people,

people that other people might find annoying or super challenging.

And I often wonder how she does it.

I know that her secret is in her love and devotion for God.

The older I get, the more I recognize that my problems with people are rooted in my problem with God. And that if I

want relationships to be good, I need to get things fixed vertically before they get repaired

horizontally. The Apostle Paul brings this out in Galatians chapter 5. He says here, for the whole law can be summed up in this one command.

Love your neighbor as yourself.

If I were to ask you the question, what is the whole law summed up in?

In one word, what would you say?

I immediately think of what Jesus said when he said the greatest commandment of all is to love the Lord, your God, with all of your heart, mind, soul, and strength.

That's the greatest love of all.
