Last week there was quite a furor on my Instagram. People mostly white virtue signalers were coming

onto my page and demanding to know why I did not post a black square on my page on a certain day last week.

This was apparently meant by some to be a gesture of solidarity with black people.

And in the midst of a lot of white noise, i.e. white people virtue signaling,

who are pretty much drowning out all of the black voices,

I was asked genuinely by a few women of color who had taken

my programs or were otherwise followers of mine what my thoughts were on this current situation.

And I said if they genuinely wanted to know, I would share, but I wanted to be able to offer

them something much deeper than just a hashtag and some social media activism.

And I also wanted some time to really think about all of this in a deep way

before posting a response, because as you will know, if you have followed my work I'm not about

superficial band-aids or things that don't work. So to me posting a hashtag or a

picture to address a very deep topic feels disingenuous and so I didn't do it.

And also with this current theme and playing out in so many dimensions of censorship and muzzling.

It just didn't sit right with me to put up a black square and deliberately muzzle myself.
