Summary

Your most remarkable work won’t simply be your craft. I promise you. When you’re at the end of your career looking back, your best stuff will be on the fringe of your craft that makes your favorite projects feel whole…feel different…feel interesting and unique to you.

In this episode, we explore why our craft is foundational and necessary, yet the richest fruit of our labor actually exists beyond it.

Enjoy!

Chase's Your Office Show here on Creative Live, you know the show where I sit down with awesome humans or I do what I can to share something that I have learned that has deeply impacted me, my career, my friends, peers,

0:21.9

people that I aspire to be more like, or perhaps people that are on your radar,

0:26.8

to identify a couple of key characteristics of the most truly remarkable people that I

0:35.0

have encountered in my career. One of these things is that the truly remarkable people

0:41.4

are not just masters of their craft, say they're a designer, a photographer, a filmmaker,

0:47.9

needlepoint, entrepreneur. They're not just masters of that craft in the narrow sense small C thought of craft,

1:21.2

and lots of other small toppings, if you will, that they sprinkle on their work, that elevates it, that separates it,

1:30.4

and makes it more distinctive from the work of their peers or other work that we see in the

1:35.3

industry. In fact, the very best photographers, I know, the best creators, teachers, accountants,

1:41.6

insert any job here. They are also entrepreneurs or entrepreneurs. They

1:50.0

are authors, they are speakers, marketers, they are strategists, and more. In short, you've heard me

1:57.7

use this word hyphens before. We are all hyphens. But again, one of these

2:03.4

characteristics are the best performers I know. The best humans, in fact, is that they lean

2:09.3

into being this hyphen rather than run away from it, rather than focused exclusively on the

2:15.6

core. And right now, you say, okay, I'm picking this, I'm picking

2:19.4

up what you're putting down, Chase, but I have a couple of questions. I don't understand how we can
