I was watching a documentary recently and it was the first time that I understood that

there are, and please correct me if I'm saying this wrong, but there are, for lack of a

better word, famous waves in different parts of the world, is that correct?

And that the different waves, depending on where you are in the world, are sort of good

for different things, like if you want to serve a barrel versus if you want to do aerials,

is that accurate information?

Or am I, did I hear that wrong?

Is there some accuracy to that?

Absolutely.

I grew up in Hawaii, of course, and the wave that had the most influence on me as a child

was a wave called Bonsai Pipeline, which is on the North River Wahoo, which is at the

time when I was growing up, was considered the most dangerous wave in the world.

And also this kind of, it was where all the great surfers from all over the world came

to kind of test their skills.

Since that time, there's a wave in Tahiti called Teahupo that has taken over from Pipeline

and that breaks on a barrier reef and it's a left which, you know, waves breaking different

directions.

So a right is a wave that if you're right-handed, you would face the wave and go to your left

and a left is a wave that you would face and you would go to the right with your, you

would face it with your left hand.
