Summary

Sonya lives in Western Pennsylvania, just outside the town of Johnstown. When Sonya was 12 years old, she went for a walk in the woods, at a place called Buttermilk Falls, with her father and one of her father’s friends. What happened to them on that walk frightened her father so much, he never went back into the woods again, after that day. What happened that could frighten an avid hunter, like her father, so badly? 0:28.9	I'm not sure if it was a sighting, but my father and his best friend took us for a walk.
0:34.8	We were going up to the Falls in Westmoreland County, which people
0:39.7	right here called Buttermilk Falls. And the trail we went on is off of 56, right there near Heffley
0:48.0	Springs. And so it was an off, you know, off the beat trail that we took. And we were like, maybe like 15
0:58.4	minutes into walking up there when all of a sudden, um, it got really quiet. And my, we smelled
1:05.8	something. And I thought, I was 12 at the time, um, I thought, I heard something right behind me. So we turned around,
1:15.4	look, there was nobody around. And the smell that we smelled, it smelled like, and I could still
1:21.9	remember it from this day, like if you threw away raw chicken in the trash outside and you go out a couple days later
1:29.4	to the trash can lift the lid off and that awful smell that is what we smelled and we all smelled
1:36.4	and the first thing my dad's friend said who was an avid hunter he had just said we got to go back to the
1:42.8	car we got to leave and so we just all left back to the car
1:47.2	but my dad didn't say two words they didn't say nothing and I didn't see anything but it was a
1:54.2	smell and it kept getting stronger and stronger and it was um I think it was like maybe the

2:02.6	was just becoming fall and um you could hear something in the woods which you know i thought
2:09.9	maybe a bear or something like that but i grew up in the woods and a bear doesn't smell like that
