have you heard the big news? What, David? Jeff Bezos just dropped a tweet which i i think it's pretty a long tweet you thought it was

kind of a short tweet um about how he is reimagining the edit page to um to have two pillars

basically philosophical pillars uh that it will defend. One is, I forgot how he said,

individual liberty, personal liberties and the other are free markets. He brought this up to the current

or recent, recent editorial page editor, David Shipley. and David Shipley was not interested in defending those

two pillars and he quit. Well, that's not quite accurate. What he said about David Shipley was

that he strongly encouraged him that unless the answer wasn't, hell yes, to the new vision for the

edit page, then it had to be a no. And it says he gave it careful consideration

and decided to step away. So it's not quite that he, you know, out and out was a monster who

refused or anything, but just that it didn't seem the right fit. But personal liberties and

capitalism are not the right fit for an American editorial page. It's weird. Well, even before we got

to that part, I thought it was really funny.

He says, there was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly,

might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader's doorstep every morning a broad-based

opinion section that sought to cover all views.

Today, the internet does that job.

And it's like, okay, if you thought that what you were doing at the Washington Post was bringing

a wide variety of like all the views to the reader's doorstep with a broad-based opinion section,

you are wrong.
