Second Samuel chapter 13.

We're going to consider verses 1 through 22.

As I forestated, I'm going to teach out of these verses before we get into some key points on today. Now, David has set in motion a vicious cycle of consequences for his household.

It started with him focusing on the wrong thing, which was another man's wife.

Now, remember, David had several wives when he

set his eyes upon Bathsheba. David actually had a son by the name of Amnon, and he was the

eldest son of David by his wife, Ohinoam.

Now, Amnon, being the eldest, is crown prince and heir to the throne.

But he finds himself experiencing premature death

because he's focused on the wrong thing.

Before we judge David or Amnon, could it be today that God wants to speak to our hearts

concerning where we have set our focus?

And so what I want us to do as we're inspired by the Spirit of God is examine

what we're focused on. Some time after this, David's son, Amnon, fell in love with David's other son, Absalon's beautiful sister, Tamar.

Love is not the issue here, it is lust.

Amnon became so emotionally distressed that he felt sick over his half-sister Tamar.

She was a virgin.

And Amnon found it difficult to do anything to her.

Now, how can I get to her? Since I'm driven by this passion of lust. Verse three,

meanwhile, Amnon had a friend. This friend was actually his cousin, and this was David's nephew.

He had a friend named Johnadab, who was the son of David's brother

Shimeon. Now, Johnadab was a very shrewd man. In other words, he was cunning. He was sly.
