Summary

One of the most introspective episodes yet... Bach and Arthur dive headfirst into the uncomfortable experience of cognitive dissonance — that mental tug-of-war between our values and actions. They explore how this tension shows up in everything from Family Vs Freedom, Farting Vs Climate, to the ethics of using AI and the guilt of late-night bacon.

Through personal confessions and philosophical reflections, the boys question whether failing to live up to your ideals makes you a hypocrite — or just human. They touch on the emotional weight of ethical eating, the true carbon cost of AI, and how ChatGPT has both helped and hindered their moral compass (including that gorilla search...)

Expect laughter, uncomfortable truths, a Mukbang tease, and one hell of a barking outro. It’s a heavy episode — but don’t worry, rose toys will always find a way to get a mention.

Right, so welcome back to the Batchin author podcast, everybody.

0:15.0

Today is episode 13 and it's all about hypocrisy and reconciliation.

0:21.4

And 13's an unlucky number, so we're going to get ourselves cancelled today.

0:24.7

We actually could.

0:26.0

I mean, we, season one, we haven't really had a season one sort of like deep dive, like really, really going, going deep and introspective.

0:35.4

No.

0:36.0

So we had episode 36 36 all about moral choices.

0:39.9

It was all about exposing our moral hypocrisy.

0:43.1

And I sort of ran through a series of choices with you about saving people's lives,

0:50.6

almost like trolley problem type stuff.

0:52.6

Yeah.

0:52.9

And we both ended up agreeing that there was like a perfect moral ideal, a way to act in certain

1:00.1

situations and basically saying that we fall short of that kind of thing all the time.

1:04.7

So if you haven't watched that already, that's some good context.

1:06.7

You're welcome to go back.

1:07.8

But it was essentially things like the end point was like,

1:11.0

oh,

1:11.1

would you rather save a man's life or buy a new pair of shoes? And we both obviously pick Save the Man's Life, but then we were like, oh, when you go out and buy a pair of shoes, you know, you kind of could be using that money to potentially save someone's life. Probably plenty of charities out there that go, oh, your donation of this much would actually genuinely save one life. It's probably less than a pair of shoes. So it got me thinking,

1:33.1

and especially the comments, which is always, they're always welcome kind of going like,

1:38.7

oh, have you guys, you guys ever thought about this? And we speak about quite a lot of things.

1:43.8

You know, we speak about climate change. We speak about animal rights, all that kind of stuff. I think those two are things I speak about quite a lot. And, you know, people are always asking me like, oh, why don't you become vegan? Like, how come you guys can speak about climate change and care about in the environment and all that kind of stuff? And also use AI and where does go um so i was trying to think like what are my main sources of cognitive dissonance i i've got yours

2:06.9

and we're essentially going to go through them just kind of like say like these are what they are
