Summary

A few weeks back, we covered the saga of how serial plagiarist Ashley Flowers worked out a deal with Indiana State Police investigator Bill Dalton to get the exclusive right to access — and make money off of —the Burger Chef investigative files Dalton had been entrusted with.

To learn more about that sorry affair, please listened to "You Never Can Forget: The Fiasco" (https://tinyurl.com/5n82x5wn).

This week, we're back with more information on this mess, thanks to a records request that the ISP just (finally) completed. In this episode, we'll get into bizarre details about the Red Ball collaboration, like how Dalton and Flowers mocked other podcasters and planned trips to Idaho together. We'll also feature insights from Chris Davis, another podcaster who's covered the Burger Chef case.

About half of that episode dealt with the people negatively affected by her serial plagiarism.

The rest of it focused on the Bill Dalton slash Red Ball affair.

You will recall that Bill Dalton of the Indiana State Police chose to give Flowers exclusive

access to private investigative files concerning the Bergerchev case.

0:33.8

He did this so that Flowers could use them to make money.

0:37.5

In return, Flowers gave the Indiana State Police complete control over the resulting program.

0:43.6

She did not even bother to inform her listeners of this so that they could only assume her

0:48.2

glowing comments about the ISP and Bill Dalton's wonderful smile were the results of her

0:53.7

own independent editorial judgment.

Many people have long wondered about the relationship between Flowers and Dalton and what exactly

1:02.9

may have prompted him to make such an unusual deal with her.

1:07.3

In an effort to get some answers, we were able to obtain some email sent between them.

1:13.9

In our mind, they offer some possible explanations.

1:18.2

They certainly give us all a glimpse into how Dalton and Flowers talked about others when

1:23.4

they thought no one else was paying attention.

1:27.5

In any case, we covered the story of those emails in another episode from last year.

1:32.5

Since people were interested in the earlier Flowers episode we shared last week, we thought

1:36.4

we would re-release this email's episode as well.

1:40.6

Before we get to the episode, however, we wanted to quickly mention something else.

1:44.6

We've always tried to keep the focus squarely on the cases we cover and not on what is
