We're going to talk about some hitters to add this week in the Waverwire, and I want to start with somebody who is one of my favorite prospects in baseball, and not just because his last name ends in a vowel, which doesn't hurt. It certainly adds to some of the appeal of Sam Antanachi, a player that I really, really like of the Chicago White Sox. And I was big on him. We talked about, you know, adding him way back when on the show to make sure you were ahead of the game. And I see some of you listened, and then some of you got impatient and dropped him. Well, don't be impatient with young players, especially ones that have a profile like Sam Antonototch, because Antonacci is a guy that's going to hit for contact, he's going to walk, he's got some pop, he's got some speed, and if you've been patient and you've held on to him, you've been rewarded. But regardless of that fact, if you look on CBS right now, which is, again, one of our highest roster percentages that you're going to find, 31% roster. That means he's available in 70% of leagues, which means if you go to Yahoo, ESPN, it's probably in the 20-something range or somewhere thereabouts. So, Antinacci is widely available, and if you haven't been paying attention because he wasn't on your roster, over the last week, two important things have happened. Number one, starting to make better contact, two, harder contact, hitting 381 over his last six games with two RBI and a stolen base as well. Now, he doesn't have a home run on that stretch, but he does have one home run on the year so far in his first 19-knaps. But the other big note here is run productivity going up for him. Why? because the White Sox moved him up to that leadoff spot. And that's what we've been waiting for. |
| 1:47.2 | So now he's hitting one, which means extra at bats, which means in points league, he's super valuable. He's going to fill the stat sheet. He's going to be a really good player again in terms of contact in terms of productivity. So Sam Antanachi's a guy that you can add plus. Guess what? A lot of leagues, he qualifies at second base and outfield too. How about them apples? We love that. Welsh, give me a guy that you want to add on the hitting side this week in fantasy baseball. I also want to reiterate what you said like, this is quite a few guys we've talked about in some of these episodes that still have some low roster percentage. To be frank, I probably would have like brought them up, but just not to have repeating that, not to say that you guys shouldn't pick them up all the time or whatever, but like there's still low roster percentage. So these are picking a few other names, but we'll pick some bangers. There's some good ones out there. You brought this guy up, I think, at the very, very beginning of the season. And I'm going to just reiterate, you know, why you can pick him up because it's only 15% ownership on the consensus between Yahoo and ESPN. Maybe that's going to be more on CBS, but Brooks Lee. Now, I think this is a double-sided coin I was about to say, I was about to do a Welshism. Double-edged sword or really butcher one? Yeah, double-edged sword? It's a Welshman. One of the two. But Brooks Lee is pretty surface level right now. Hitting 270. He's got five homers, a couple stolen bases, absolutely red-hot in May. And this point is to reiterate that not every single player we're always going to talk about is going to have this great story of players that you're going to hold all season and they're going to win your league. |
| 3:13.4 | Sometimes it's about picking up the hotness. |
| 3:15.8 | And I think Brooks Lee is kind of the hotness right now. |
| 3:18.5 | May has been a prime example of that. |
| 3:19.9 | And where I'm kind of going with this is he does have a pretty underwhelming baseball savant |
| 3:24.7 | page. I mean, his expected batting average is like almost 60 points lower than where he's currently hitting at. He's got pretty low barrel, really low hard hit rate. And that kind of equates to unsustainability. And I think that's relatively fair. And that's why my point to this is picking him up because he is really hot right now. And I would run this out and I think you can burn and churn him. But I don't want to miss out on a bunch of these extra base hits. I don't want to miss out on some of this power potential. I do think there's some sustainability in that he does a really good job of getting the ball in the air with really good pull air numbers. And we've seen hitters be able to maintain that before. Like back in the day, like C.J. Abrams, Hassan Kim had done this where it was like, they didn't barrel. They didn't hit the ball super hard. C.J. Abrams just fixed that. But they got the ball in the air and they pulled it, magical things can happen. And you can start running into some homers. And I think that's what Brooks Lee has. The other big positive, he doesn't strike out a bunch. You know, he walks a little bit, |
| 4:17.5 | doesn't strike out a whole ton. And I think that's going to help him kind of a slow bat to make |
| 4:21.9 | a lot of contact, a doubles hitter. But I'm not telling you to hold on to Brooks Lee for the season, |
| 4:26.1 | but what I am telling you is like, this is a very serviceable bat right now who is super super hot low roster percentage you can put them in the middle infield and i think i want to ride this out a little bit longer maybe some of this underlying stuff gets a little bit higher but if he starts to falter i'll move on from him but i think this is a good kind of like streaming waiver bat that i'm looking i'm eyeing right now all right a bat that's been floating out there in a lot of waiver wires, and I understand why is because people were probably not buying into it. San Francisco Giants, Casey Schmidt. Now, he qualifies at multiple positions in the infield in most leagues. He is just 38% rostered. So, again, these are guys under 40, so I recognize these guys might be, quote, unquote, rostered in your league. But again, by percentages, 70% is what? |
| 5:08.2 | A majority. |
| 5:09.2 | That's right. |
| 5:10.2 | The 70% majority of leagues, he is still available. |
| 5:13.5 | And I get it because I think profile-wise, he's kind of unspectacular. |
